Okay I started out a WHM went to lvl 9 and didn't really care for it. so i changed jobs to RDM and am now lvl 9 on that and like it very much. I want the RDM to be my main but the question is since i was a WHM first is that possible? Eventually i would like to be a summoner.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm very new.

Yeah since you started as a WHM, I am sorry but RDM can't be your main. You have to stick with whatever job you started as. Also summoner is only avilable for those who started as monks. Also remember to sell those crystals you get to the NPC (computer players) at the armor shop in SanD'Oria. Some people might tell you to sell them at the Auction House, but don't listen. The Auction House is just a waste of time.

Ok and if you are serious about rdm, make sure you choose Galka. Galka make the best mages. In fact a tarutaru mage is only allowed to level to 30, then they are forced to choose a different job.

Oh and btw, I am guessing from your 23 posts, that your first post on this thread was a scam. If I was wrong, please don't start over and disregard everything I have said.

Vawn <slap> Bad boy! LOL

Yes, you can have Rdm as your main (actually you do by playing Rdm). When you get to 18 you can finish the sub-job quest and by selecting Whm as your sub will be Rdm 18/9Whm.

It is important in this game to keep your sub jobs levelled. This is sometimes a pain in the a** but necessary. If you want to keep levelling your Rdm as main you will still need to level the other(s) to keep them at least to half of your main.

Oh, and don't sell chrystals to the NPC's. Sell in the auction house in stacks of 12 or in you bazzar.

Rdm are very important to the Blm and Pld when you get the spell refresh. Work hard, farm alot (to pay for spells) and good luck.

ps. Don't be shy about asking these questions on the Red Mage forum. Lots of help there.

OMG really? I thought the Tarutaru were the best for mage chars. When i decided on WHM that's why i chose the Taru, at least thats what the book recommended. If i stay with the WHM Taru as a main and keep the RDM as a subjob how should then be leveled? and is that a good pair?

huh? what kind of scam can it be with a question? I'm new from EQOA which is a far less complicated game than FFXI. I really don't understand the scam portion since i was asking for advice/help not money or items.

I hope you are serious or I will feel pretty silly.

1) Taru's are the best for mages (from a INT and Mana standpoint).
2) Vawn was joking.
3) Keep levelling your Rdm to 18 and then select whm sub.
4) Try Black mage to. Its a great sub for Rdm later in the game (plus you might like it too).

Don't listen to Vawn..he isn't serious.

Oh thank you thank you! When you say select whm as sub at lvl 18 i'm confused but i could be mixing things up a bit. I thought u can't do that till lvl 20. But for now i'll stay on the RDM thank you so much again :) Srry for being dumb about this...

No problem.

1) When you get to 18 you can do the sub job quest (you have to get 3 item and turn them in) check the quest description in the Allakhazam site.

2) When you complete the quest you have already levelled you Whm to 9 so you will automatically (when you select from your moogle) a Rdm18/Whm9.

3) You wll then need to keep levelling your Whm some to keep it up to at least half of your Rdm .

4) I really think your should consider (later) to try Blm. This is the best sub at higher levels for Rdm. Actually you will probably have to level all three (by the way, whm to 36-38 is very helpfull for teleport and quests).

5) The Chocobo quest is a 20. Different subject.

See you around. Don't worry. By the way, Vawn thought with 23 posts that you were joking. He really is a nice person and a great player. Don't take offense.

The subjob quest is at lvl 18.

A few points to keep in mind is that a RDM is expected to be a backup healer more often than not up to level 41. Having WHM as a sub available could be beneficial.

Some of the best RDM's I know have both BLM and WHM leveled so they can adapt to the parties needs.

Just keep in mind that your sub job doesn't level with you, so you have to go back and level your sub once in a while.

Welcome to the server and good luck!

Ahh well with the 23 posts thing. As i said i'm a former eqoa player and originally last year i had registered on this site for that game but then sony came up with it's own forums for it so i hardly used this one hence the 23 posts.

BTW i really like this game so far. I don't really see the drama that i used to seen in EQOA. Everyone is so nice in game and on these forums too. My hubby and I both left EQOA for this game:)

Stincher, as has already been said, yes you can be a red mage as your main job. I highly recommend you head over to the red mage forum and check out some posts there, they have been very beneficial to me. As a red mage, you will probably want to have a black mage sub (once you get to level 18), but this depends upon your preference. It sounds like you don't enjoy healing as much, so black mage would be a better choice than white mage for a subjob. As Snarg suggested, you may want to have both of them leveled and adapt to the needs of the party. (This becomes more of an issue as you get to higher levels).

Anyways, I thoroughly enjoy being a red mage, and if you /tell Praetor in-game I would be happy to help you out with any questions you have.

P.S. As a RDM in a party, your priorities are:
1. Enfeebling the mob (you should almost always be casting slow, paralyze, and either dia or bio - check out RDM 101 in the red mage forum for more info)
2. Backup healing (while you can act as primary healer until about level 25, if you didn't like being a white mage, you won't want to be the primary healer)
3. Backup damage (nuking or meleeing)

I was a Rdm to lvl 30, and I really enjoyed it. A little tip is that when you get to higher lvls and can't afford all the spells right away, get other spells before you get the bar-spells. They do come in handy sometimes, but since you can only cast them on yourself, it is best to get other magic scrolls first. In the early levels, don't be afraid to buy a sword and whack away, but have a wand handy so you get Int. and Mnd. bonuses, these help a lot. Which brings me to another topic, as a Rdm, you will be expected to have lots of different gear depending on your role, so if you are doing nuking, bring Int. stuff. If you're a back-up Whm, have plenty of Mnd. And try to keep all your magic skill levels as close to cappedas you can, it will help a lot in the long run. Rdm is a very exciting job, and post lvl 41 Rdms and Brds make or break a pt, so you have that to look forward to. Also, Rdm AF (Artifact Armor) looks really cool. (Pimp Suit) Have Fun in your travels, -Muon
