Outside of the fact you're a very bad troll...

People are more spread out now because of level synch and have taken up Fields of Valor soloing and Campaigning instead of waiting in towns for party invites. It's not dead, just less dense in the previously congested area's.

Most of the reason you dont encounter a lot of people outside of the usual party locations is exactly because of the wide open area's that FFXI holds already. Expanding it more, while fun, would only make you see less people per square inch.
Just look at WoW, while the amount of players far exceeds that of FFXI, for all you know half of the people are swimming somewhere in the ocean or running over a deserted island somewhere. It's just too big (and free roam) to randomly encounter someone familiar.

The entire game is dead, technically... there's no new blood, only old players and die hard fans that cling to it because of different reasons. We're all as pathetic as the people who continued to play Everquest long after the sequel came out, if you wanted to make it an SAT question.


The only thing that seperates the depraved Final Fantasy XI player from other MMORPG obsessed kkthxers is the fact that there are unfortunately no other Japanese MMO's that are even halfway user-friendly to people that don't understand "Moonspeak."

However, if you are adept at Japanese and can manage to cope with the standard keyboard with Japanese language settings enabled in Windows you might want to take a look at:

1) Uncharted Waters Online

Released by Koei, it's in the vein of their historical RPG type games and actually has a really interesting setting. It's somewhere around the 1500s when privateers and swashbucklers etc. ruled the seas. You chose one of 8? nations I think (forgive me it's been a long time since I played it, who would've thought this mf understood Moonspeak huh?)

You own a ship and can sail around battling other nation's fleets ie pvp combat, or trade goods, and you can also visit ports of call where you can visit all the weird shops and guilds and such, even hang out at a tavern and goof around if you are inclined to such silly activity.

2) Nobunaga's Ambition Online

Same kinda thing, only it's feudal Japan. More of a fantasy setting though because there are Onmyoji and other cool things like that. I didn't get too deep into that particular one though.

3) Phantasy Star Universe

This one is actually really user friendly for international players, considering that fact that Japanese servers are seperate and get their updates approximately 6 months to 1 year before anyone else does but at least you can type and read in your native language if it is based on the Roman alphabet.

FF XI still holds its charm for me, but my 360 blew up so I'm going to troll forums until I get my PS2 discs for PS3 in the mail. I've never enjoyed forums much. It's never very informative.

I just informed everyone about quite a few Japanese MMO's and Kujata's population compared to Odin's and Bahamut's is about 50%. I can say that because I play on both.

What really keeps nagging me is the game dead because of lack of players or is it philosophically dead, kind of like it has some kind of "soul disease"

Because even the crowded servers are a lot the same as Kujata, everyone comes from a cookie cutter mold and seems to think and behave much the same.
