Heh, personally I am surprised FFXI has lived this long in general. Honestly it doesn't look dead to me, but I think it would be cool if they expanded the world (made it larger) with more areas to EXP in and merged a majority of the servers. I can only imagine how hard it is for new players to the game to get help in stuff like ranking up in your home nation, or doing ZMs, etc. etc.

I would think it would make it easier to find help when a server has, oh say... 4000 people online on average instead of around 1000-2000 online. Heck, I remember back when I played, I would send invites to people in tells, and most of the time they were afk and reply a couple of hours later. Anyway, yeah... server merging would probably help.

P.S.
Forgot to mention the large percentage of any server population is mules, heh heh. Gotta sell off those beetle shells and insect wings afterall.

Outside of the fact you're a very bad troll...

People are more spread out now because of level synch and have taken up Fields of Valor soloing and Campaigning instead of waiting in towns for party invites. It's not dead, just less dense in the previously congested area's.

Most of the reason you dont encounter a lot of people outside of the usual party locations is exactly because of the wide open area's that FFXI holds already. Expanding it more, while fun, would only make you see less people per square inch.
Just look at WoW, while the amount of players far exceeds that of FFXI, for all you know half of the people are swimming somewhere in the ocean or running over a deserted island somewhere. It's just too big (and free roam) to randomly encounter someone familiar.

I apologize, KojiroSoma. I honestly meant no offense. Although I will agree my post looked a little ill tempered.

3 years ago /sea all would produce about 2100 people online at peak times.
This weekend /sea all produced about 2100 people online at peak times.

Donno what you're talking about.

Heh heh, well there you go. Proof by a statistic like that is proof enough that FFXI is running as strong as ever. :)

Actually Valtus plays under a different name, he started over and last I saw, he was a high 60s, now he's a Taru, keeping his name confidential if he wants to give it out he will.

Surprised he never said anything to me when I started over, but once reality set in and realizing how group oriented this game was, ( I forgot because I haven't played for 2+ years), I couldn't muster the willpower or time to start over.

Miss the good old days with The Blue Crew camping Kings against other LSs, Outspoken, redefine, Journeys End and the japanese ones, awesome times... Kujata used to be one of the busiest servers, drama everywhere.

Great people on Kujata server, really awesome friendly people. I really wish I could muster the strength to start over but its just so much of a grind and, I'm 27 years old now with a rough physical job and a girlfriend and another hobby I love almost as much as I did FFXI, working out.

Oh well best of luck to everyone, Slaven, Elfidan, Gorgoroth, Xeroh, good old school buddies with hearts of gold.

Peace, good luck with everything, you will be in my memories.

If you want my myspace just send me a priv message and we can chill. :)

Edit: Ketrel holy freak dude spend enough time on forums? 4400+ posts? god get a life.

The entire game is dead, technically... there's no new blood, only old players and die hard fans that cling to it because of different reasons. We're all as pathetic as the people who continued to play Everquest long after the sequel came out, if you wanted to make it an SAT question.

The only thing that seperates the depraved Final Fantasy XI player from other MMORPG obsessed kkthxers is the fact that there are unfortunately no other Japanese MMO's that are even halfway user-friendly to people that don't understand "Moonspeak."

However, if you are adept at Japanese and can manage to cope with the standard keyboard with Japanese language settings enabled in Windows you might want to take a look at:

1) Uncharted Waters Online

Released by Koei, it's in the vein of their historical RPG type games and actually has a really interesting setting. It's somewhere around the 1500s when privateers and swashbucklers etc. ruled the seas. You chose one of 8? nations I think (forgive me it's been a long time since I played it, who would've thought this mf understood Moonspeak huh?)

You own a ship and can sail around battling other nation's fleets ie pvp combat, or trade goods, and you can also visit ports of call where you can visit all the weird shops and guilds and such, even hang out at a tavern and goof around if you are inclined to such silly activity.

2) Nobunaga's Ambition Online

Same kinda thing, only it's feudal Japan. More of a fantasy setting though because there are Onmyoji and other cool things like that. I didn't get too deep into that particular one though.

3) Phantasy Star Universe

This one is actually really user friendly for international players, considering that fact that Japanese servers are seperate and get their updates approximately 6 months to 1 year before anyone else does but at least you can type and read in your native language if it is based on the Roman alphabet.

==================

FF XI still holds its charm for me, but my 360 blew up so I'm going to troll forums until I get my PS2 discs for PS3 in the mail. I've never enjoyed forums much. It's never very informative.

Forrest Gump told me about you.

Mataleo was a real smart man. He was always quoting people.

I just informed everyone about quite a few Japanese MMO's and Kujata's population compared to Odin's and Bahamut's is about 50%. I can say that because I play on both.

There's your MF-in source.

Read a book plz

What really keeps nagging me is the game dead because of lack of players or is it philosophically dead, kind of like it has some kind of "soul disease"

Because even the crowded servers are a lot the same as Kujata, everyone comes from a cookie cutter mold and seems to think and behave much the same.

I've found myself arguing it being alive and being dead, to be honest I just wish that someone had some useful input.

When people say "kujata is dead" they mean they want life. They want something interesting!

They don't want your BULLsh*t advice about getting a linkshell and how to LEVEL past level 20!

I'll end everything said about Kujata or any server being dead on this note.

Nobody contributed anything useful, I argued many points myself, and have come to the conclusion that everyone that uses this forum is a @#%^tard.

LOL

Peace!

So we are on a server w/ a lighter population... that happens in ALL games.

Judging from the lack of activity on the boards since ~ 6 months ago and the fact that I am seeing < 1000 ppl on during NA times ... I am thinking this thread was a good prediction.

It is so sad on the server these days.
