I don't think it's unreasonable to want to keep sequels and spin-offs of Depression Quest from being made.

I'm pretty sure you can be against or ambivalent towards reform in gaming journalism without thinking gamergate people are a bunch of misogynists.

Yes, but those people aren't "Anti-Gamergate". The Anti people are, pretty much exclusively, those opposed to the Gamergate "movement" on the grounds that it's a thin cover for misogyny under the laughable pretext of "journalism ethics".

People who don't give a shit either way about game journalism OR Gamergate as a front for misogyny aren't likely to align themselves with either side and so wouldn't be a great interview subject in a point/counterpoint setting.

Edit: Granted, it's messy because you have two different camps claiming two different things. GG folks saying it's about journalism and AGG folks saying it's about misogyny. The AGG folks don't want to listen to journalism arguments because they say "That's just a cover for the misogyny" and the GG folks don't want to talk about the misogyny because "That's just people smearing the movement". So it's all cross talk about topics the other side doesn't want to discuss anyway.

For my part I imagine that by this point there are a bunch of retards who really do care about 'effiks in gaym jernalism*' that bought into the corruption pretense and thus identify with GG.

Does this make me a moderate? I've always wanted to be a moderate.

*These misspellings are supposed to convey my undying contempt for everyone in GG; I hope they all die in burning hellfire.

Well yeah, which is why I think it's important to find people who actually disagree with your movement, rather than the ones who think you're all a bunch of wackos. If you want to make the discussion about the issue you care about, you should discuss the issue instead of painting the people who disagree with you as a bunch of radicals.

I think the movement is misguided and the kind of reforms they want aren't possible, and aren't worth the effort. That doesn't mean I think Poldaran is a basement dwelling misogynist. I have good reason to believe he lives in an apartment with a roommate, or something like that. I'm not really excited about the feminist camp either really, and could put together an argument as to why there's an over-reaction there. That's a completely different topic however. It'd be nice to get to the point where we uncouple these two issues, because there's no reason they need to be related any more.

But again, I'm sure there are plenty of people who disagree with the movement, why only interview the one with a radical view? The pro-GG girl had a rational view, and isn't one of the radicals in her camp, you should do likewise for the other side if you want it to be balanced.

Because everyone who strenuously disagrees with the "movement" does so on the same grounds: that it's a front for misogyny.

You don't have the counterpoint being "I'm opposed to ethics in gaming journalism" because no one has that stance. At best, you have people saying "Gaming journalism is a stupid thing to care about". But you don't really want a show where one guy is for something and other side says "That's dumb, this topic is dumb, I'm just here for the free coffee".

I'm sure it's not very entertaining at all. But if you're going to get enough momentum going to actually fix what you think is a problem you need to make the case. Let's start here:

1) Big gaming companies aren't going to permit a reviewer to continue to have early access to their games if they give poor reviews, so you're never going to get "balanced" reviews of upcoming games. The Companies simply are holding all the cards at this point, and there's isn't enough money in "game journalism" to offset that.

2) The changes aren't necessary because there are already tons of player-reviews out there. I can go to nearly any game-review site and see hundreds or thousands of player-reviews on any released game, along side the "professional" reviews.

3) People mostly rely on "gaming news" to get updates and sneak-previews of upcoming games. There's no "ethics" involved here, as they really just want to see a couple of screenshots, a short video, and hear an update from the developers anyway.

4) Only a small number of people who play the game actually read the reviews before hand, so any concern about the companies "hyping" their game is overblown.

5) The amount of ethical conflict there is present in game journalism doesn't warrant this kind of reaction.

6) Things like movie reviews aren't really fair and balanced either, and that industry gets along just fine.

Just off the top of my head...

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

If I had two wishes I could make this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace. And the second would be for 30 million dollars a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.

You know, if I had three wishes I could make this holiday season, the first, of course, would be for all the children of the world to get together and sing, the second would be for the 30 million dollars every month to me, and the third would be for encompassing power over every living being in the entire universe.

And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, the first would be the crap about the kids definitely, the second would be for the 30 million, the third would be for all the power, and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year to have an extended 31-day org
asm, to be brought out slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina-somebody, I can't think of her name. Of course my lovely wife can come too and she's behind me one hundred percent here, I guarantee it.

Wait a minute, maybe the s
ex thing should be the first wish, so if I made that the first wish, because it could all go boom tomorrow, then what do you got, y'know? No, no, the kids, the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. But wait a minute, who am I kidding? They're not going to be able to get all those kids together. I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible, more trouble than it's worth!

So -- we reorganize! Here we go. First, the s
ex thing. We go with that. Second, the money. No, we go with the power second, then the money. And then the kids.

Oh wait, oh jeez, I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay, I need revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in he
ll! That would be my fourth wish. And, of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

But at the same time when people complain about movie reviews, the reviewers don't tell them that they're a bunch of dying breed neckbeard basement dwellers. Though, I'd probably pay good money for Roger Ebert to do just that and I'd use it as a ringtone.

Yeah, and most people recognize one person's opinion versus a systemic problem within an industry.

Apparently people are jumping the gun. It was just a letter acknowledging his request and supplying the case number he was looking into and informing him of roughly how long it'll take to get him what he requested. As to what he's looking into, I'm not entirely certain. The FTC is investigating someone that has GGers giddy. But I can't seem to find info on who that specifically is. Some people were talking about Gawker being under investigation for tax dodging, but I'm not sure if that's related to this.
