Costa Rica playing with 9 defenders is starting to get mildly annoying, understandable but no fun. Shame Van Persie isn't in top form yet.

Jesus, just how close can you get to a goal without scoring?

Costa Rican shots on goal after 105 minutes: 0.

What a crazy 0-0 that was. Mental.

If CR end up winning... That will give Messi one hell of a semi.

Thanks, I'm here all night

Not sure I've ever seen a keeper being subbed just before penalties before.

Cillessen sucks balls at penalties, I don't think he has ever stopped one.

That said, it would be awful if Costa Rica won this, they've been playing for this for 120 minutes without making more than a token effort to try and win the game.

They had a few chances at the end... But if VP had had half a decent game, it would've been over ages ago.

Well, that sets up some pretty awesome semi finals at least.

I loved the picture of the one player hugging the goalie, he looked like a monster he was so much taller.

So let's see, if I'm FIFA....I want a S America v Europe final, but who on each side? Brazil without Neymar is weak marketing, pretty clear the script calls for Argentina vs Germany. Good run, Ornaje, maybe next time :)

I'm guessing Sneijder? At 1m70 he is by far the shortest man on the Dutch team and I think Krul is about 5cm off of 2 meters tall.

edit:

Or it's the Netherlands beating Spain, Argentine and Germany on their way to the world cup, besting all three countries that have beaten them in world cup finals (2010, 1978 and 1974 respectively).

Don't be silly, European teams don't win in S America, and the Dutch...well, they don't win. :) I'd like to see you guys win, actually, but honestly I'm not sure how you possibly get by Germany. Germany is basically just the improved version of your team at almost every position. Certainly all in their back half of the pitch. Much as you scorn the Saint Messi thing, he is absolutely a player capable of winning a final almost on his own.

I think they have a better chance than Argentina. This Argentine team has some good players, but all of them are underperforming. Maybe Messi will drag them, kicking and screaming, to lift the cup, but I doubt it.

I honestly don't think we have a particularly good chance against Germany should we meet them in the finals and I think it's about 50/50 for the semifinals vs Argentina, that said crazy things happen in world cups and so far we've stumbled through everything and the team has shown that they never give up.

Minions are still awesome.

I don't see how Brazil makes it any farther. I'm not even sure how they're this far, short of the home field advantage.

You don't?? Crooked refs, obviously. You haven't watched a lot of World Cups have you? Prepare for the refs to make it rain! Penalties for Brazil is what I'm talking about, it's going to rain marginal questionable pks. Germany might still win, they're that good.

Germany is going to win, they're a rock solid team and know the refs will call every foul and card easily after the disaster that was Brazil - Colombia. I think they'll be able to adapt to that and efficiently break down Brazil's hopes and dreams.

If they lose we can just point to Ghana playing them to a tie, and use it as justification for their apparent weakness. No need to bring the refs into it and shatter the delicate facade of competition. Smiley: oyvey

Yeah, probably. Brazil's best player won't be playing so that's a bad start. Add to that Neymar being hurt, and the pressure on the Brazil side, it doesn't look good. Brazil is *at best* a very slight favorite with everyone healthy. Zee German's advantage in defense and set pieces is probably insurmountable now. Who knows, though, crazy **** happens.

Germany tends to excel at playing tournaments as well, getting better along the way every time. Oh and Klose is out for vengeance, in 2002 he lost the finals to Brazil with Ronaldo scoring twice which made Ronaldo man of the tournament and topscorer and only this world cup has Klose tied with him for most goals scored during world cups, he's pretty determined to make it 16(+) for him to 15 for Ronaldo.

edit: and Nigel De Jong may actually be fit for the semifinals, miraculous recovery if he makes it even for the finals.
