What he meant was that all babies were precious gifts from God and thus victims of rape shouldn't have any special allowances in the debate over abortion. That was what got him in trouble anyway no matter how anyone tries to spin it. I suppose there's a theological predestination argument to be made one could take offense to ("You were raped because God wanted you to have this baby") but even without it it's still a very offensive sentiment to a whole lot of people.

I will give him credit for actually having the commitment to not play the usual wishy-washy GOP "No abortions ever... oh, except for rape and incest, of course" stance but the unfortunate fact for them is that "No abortions" isn't a popular stance among single women. You can always go the Gbaji route and say "Yeah, but let's just ignore that as unimportant to you and look at my tax plan which is what you should really care about", I suppose.

In the deductive sense.

i.e.:

All human babies are gifts from God.
Rape babies are human babies.
Therefore rape babies are gifts from God.

He didn't think through what he was saying, and what it actually boiled down to, and how offensive that sounded. But as simple as that deduction is, you'd think he would have. Somewhere in the background some political aid must have been cursing and muttering something about staying on script.

Yes it was. Not by everyone, but many of his critics.

This interpretation is exactly what I am referring to. Everyone did not assume this. Many clearly understood his position and disagreed. Likewise, many argued and accepted the aforementioned interpretation.

Funny, I had to go back and listen to that everlast song. Forgot about the well-to-do white family scene at the end.

Funny, he rails against lack of empathy and understanding, then falls prey to the exact same thing he's been complaining about by portraying the white family as out of touch and without issues.

Funny you should mention that. A while ago I saw a commercial for a Nickleback's Greatest Hits album, and I thought it was pretty outrageous of them to charge $30 for a blank cd.

No. He didn't accidently say something he didn't mean. He accidentally said something he did mean.

He did mean that rape babies are a gift from god. In fact he reiterated that all life is God's will.

Maybe he didn't mean to let that meaning be known, but it wasn't like people took the wrong meaning from what he said. I don't doubt that some opposition spin-doctor might have tried to extend his meaning to include rape is a gift from god. But that would have been intentional and not an actual misinterpretation.

I can see how people might be confused about the law-maker however as he's also been quoted as saying, "I support the death penalty".

So you see no difference between "You were raped because God wanted you to have this baby" and "All life should be treated as a gift from God"? Really? Again, not everyone inferred the former, but many critics were insinuating that he meant the former as opposed to the latter.

Not sure why there's such a big to do about "rape babies" .God has a long history of giving crappy gifts. When's the last time your wish list included such treasures as floods or famine or plagues? "Gift from God" just means you should be a good little servant and take your butt pounding with a smile.

Sure. But with the messaging caveat that "equal pay for equal work" means just that, and not the silly statistical manipulation that the Left often employs.

The made up one that doesn't exist? That one "that the left employs"? Adjusted for all viable variables....women make less money for identical roles. Not because they want to, or chose family life over careers, or take time off to be moms, or go into HR instead of electrical engineering. For IDENTICAL WORK they are PAID LESS. Not fucking confusing. Pretending it can be explained away because "Women work less hours!" requires either massive ignorance or complete intellectual dishonesty. There are mountains of data.

The Republican message to women should be something along the lines of how SSM is bad because if we're all gay married, how will we make babies to abort? THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO DO ON WEEKENDS!!!

There is a difference, but the guy quoted didn't say, "You were raped because God wanted you to have this baby"

Anyways, it would be more like God saying, "Eh, sorry bout that rape miss, here have a baby. It's a gift from me (God) so don't abort it"

The pro-choice response to this is always, "God would have known I'd abort it, since he's omnipotent or whatever. So no, God wanted me to have an abortion."

So you think because maybe 10 women nationally got pregnant while being raped it's ok to murder 100's of thousands of babies because it's convenient?
Not at all. I think it's a man and/or a woman's choice if they want to become parents right up until that fetus becomes a stand-alone human being.

What makes you think you have any right to decide how others choose to deal with an unwanted medical conditions?
