Unlike a lot of other states with positive rulings, the judge in this case did say that his ruling would be stayed until appeal. So no rush of Texans to hit the Justice of the Peace.

I think I read that there's 22 such cases going on right now across the nation. Suppose this will be hitting the SCotUS sooner rather than later.

And I hear tell that Romney and McCain have both appealed to Gov. Jan Brewer to veto the "turn away the gays" bill in Arizona.

Brewer vetoed the bill. Sounds as though MLB/NFL considerations played a decent part in it.

It's just as well. If this bill becomes law then that's all you would hear about next year. Someone who got a sub-contract for the game wouldn't be playing nice with gay people, and there'd be endless debate and dramas, accusations, boycotts, people would buy extra fried chicken, etc. Nothing good could come from that.

Well, unless you hate chickens, of course.

Hell yes. Pitchers and catchers are about to report. Have you been doing your wind sprints and working on that slider?

A lot of companies involved in tourism were also asking her to veto it, and one of the talking heads I heard quoted 1 out of every 13 jobs in Arizona is tourism related.

Its probably difficult to hold a foreign policy that is in opposition to Russia's ban on Homosexual propaganda, while supporting a ban on same sex marriage at home. I would think anyway.

Well someone is sleeping on the job because I can't think of one reason to ever be in Arizona, much less vacation.

It's not the same as walking through it. Still is awful far away from anything relevant though.

Quirks of the state system. The executive branch of the federal government can be opposed to both the policy in Russia and the policy in Arizona while the Arizona policy legally stays in place since it's not a federal matter.

Sounds better though to assume that the Obama administration 'pressured' Brewer to veto the bill.....cuz you know, American image.

Where's the coke commercial now?

I think it speaks to just how many retirees there are in Arizona. Not a huge working class population, I'd imagine. And I assume maintaining golf courses gets filed under "tourist-related industry".

#21gbaji, Posted: Feb 27 2014 at 8:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That's true, but IMO misses the larger issue. Only by adopting an incredibly simplistic "for/against gays" mindset can we ignore the vast difference between whether people have the freedom to speak about homosexuality, or whether gay couples qualify for the benefits of state marriage. I simultaneously support the illegality of child abuse *and* oppose giving every child in the country a free pet. Shocking, and similarly, this isn't contradictory at all.

Except when the only reason to do or not to do something is purely a label issue, sure.

What kind of pet are we talking about here? Would it be something I have to clean up after?

Anyway, Kentucky was ordered today to start recognizing same sex marriages performed in other states. No news on whether or not they need to accept your pets.

This bodes well for chances of finally being able to sell my brilliant screenplay " Bunghole Bobby and the Rump rangers". It's the touching story of some gay Texas rangers riding the trails searching for love. ( in all the wrong places?)

It's semi based on a true story, as everyone knows there ain't nothing in Texas but steers and ******.
