George Zimmerman Reportedly Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges.

Quote:
George Zimmerman was arrested this afternoon and is en route to the Seminole County Jail in Sanford, Florida, according to the Orlando Sentinel and TMZ. Charges have not yet been announced, but Karla Ray of Eyewitness News 9 is reporting that Zimmerman was arrested after a domestic disturbance involving his new girlfriend and a gun.

If this sounds familiar, well, it is. In addition to shooting an unarmed teenager to death last year, Zimmerman was arrested in September for a domestic incident involving his then-wife and a gun.

UPDATE: According to TMZ, Zimmerman's girlfriend claims she's pregnant. If true, that would make the domestic violence charge an automatic felony. While no charges are listed, the Seminole County Sheriff's website says Zimmerman is being held without bail.

Shocking.

I like how in these types of cases, the fetus have protected value from the law, except when the woman decides to have an abortion.

I understand your point, but if it's the woman's body, then you shouldn't be charged with anything additional. It's all in the same. I'm just pointing out an inconsistency. It's nothing new. It's the same way prostitution is illegal, but being a **** star or a gold digging ***** is legal.

Isn't that one of the more wielded criticisms of the laws, and something Smiley: tinfoilhat types have pointed to as a Republican conspiracy? So they support laws that protect the unborn child, and then draw similar comparisons you just did, noting the inconsistency. You have the argument where someone else threatening the life of the fetus is a felony, but it's okay for the mother to kill it, or something.

Sounds familiar at least.

I'm not making an argument against abortion, just stating the inconsistency.

That doesn't even make sense. Let me introduce you to Omega. You're just making stuff up because you think we disagree on something. All I did was state a fact of an inconsistency in the law. That is in no way disdaining toward women.

Hi, I'm Omega. People understand my posts because I'm clear & concise the first time I post something. I also clearly state my positions & defend them against criticism. In the off chance I'm not clear, or I feel that someone misinterprets something I wrote, I have no problem explaining in detail what I meant by what I said.

I find it frustrating because you can't/won't/don't. I wouldn't resort to negativity if I didn't feel like it might enrage you enough to clearly state whatever point it is you're trying to make badly. In short; I only abuse you 'cause I want to make you better, baby. I wouldn't abuse you if I didn't care.

I understand the inconsistency. I approve of the inconsistency. A fetus is one of the most profound things in the world. Abortions aren't performed because fetuses are negligible or unimportant. Almost all women who have abortions do so because they are not in a position to give a baby all the love, care, attention, support, and physical needs that it must have to be okay. And it's not okay to let a baby or child down. At the same time, these women know that if they bring the fetus to term, they will be unable to give away their baby that they know they can't look after properly.

You say that as if I don't. Remember, you just went and dug up a post from 2 years ago because you were just oh so sure that I contradicted myself. That was telling in two major ways.

1. You have no excuse not to look up a specific post when told exactly where it's at.
2. My posts from 2 years ago were clear and concise enough for you to be able to summarize my point after the fact

I don't see why there'd be a discrepancy.

The argument for legal abortion has little to do with the fetus. It's about the woman having the freedom to control her own body. Forced abortions and prohibited abortions are offensive for the exact same reason - they're taking away her right to choose what happens with her own body.

Both could be psychologically devastating depending on the circumstances.

I don't particularly care if the fetus is a person or not in the context of abortion, because I still would hold that someone's right to life doesn't trump another person's right to control their own body (as in, the same reasons we don't legally mandate blood donations, organ donations, etc., even in situations where a life would be directly saved because of it).

Sure, abortion is less unpleasant since I don't believe they're persons, but it still wouldn't change my stance.

In the context of domestic abuse, I'm assuming the rhetoric has to do with the chance abuse could cause a miscarriage, the potentially increased psychological pain of a to-be mother protecting her child, etc. I don't think the logic was "well, two people got hurt, not one."
