Billionaire entrepreneur Nick Hanauer says businesses hire more people only as a last resort. More jobs are put on only when unavoidable consumer demand force business to hire workers to move more product. If keeping taxes low on the rich actually lead to job creation the USA would currently be drowning in jobs.

Why must you link long you-tube videos I can't really listen to at work or at home? Smiley: glare

Anyone who listened to the saner economists already knew this. Nice to hear it from a billionaire as well.

I have a super cool flip phone. Smiley: nod

Smiley: rolleyes

It's not really a problem, just being a pain. Someone will comment eventually, then it's just a matter of trying to think up a reason they're wrong and it'll be like we never missed a beat. Smiley: cool

I didn't know that there were still people between 10 and 60 who don't have a smartphone.

Probably because you're too busy with the nose in the phone while I'm trying to weave past you in the hallway. Smiley: wink

How you people don't walk into a wall is beyond me.

It's awfully hard not to just send that one email and reply on whatsapp or skype while the grocery store app lists you what you can make for dinner with what you have left in the fridge and what's on sale at the store.

And google maps makes sure I don't get lost in the process.

Silly Aethien, it's the under 10s and retirees who are most likely to have a smartphone.

I figured that by the age of 10 every kid has at least gotten mom or dad's old phone and in the 60+ range there are a bunch of technophobes who have enough difficulty just dealing with a phone that can call and text.

Not that I dealt a lot with wireless stuff(mostly tv, internet and home phone), but I actually was shocked to discover during a recent stint doing customer support for Rogers, that the older folk seem to have a better understanding of their hardware than the younger people do, at least among most of the people calling in, on average, among the calls that made their way to me...actually, I probably can't prove that the calls I got are a good sampling of the populace...

I think the touchscreens are more intuitive. The UX folks for Android and iOS (well, before 7) really stepped up and touch screen smart phones actually kind of make sense to use now. Clamshells with monochrome text screens were confusing as heck, because they had functionality but it was buried in menus you had to access with hard buttons with the aid of the book that explained how to program it.

I don't think it'll matter much. For every older person going AAAH TECHNOLOGY! there'll be a younger person not knowing other than that it just works.
