I love watching as the Republicans publicly getting angry with the Tea Partiers get more and more conservative. First it was just the swing states, now you have safer Republicans getting annoyed. Smiley: lol

I'm also rather enjoying the fact that they refuse to disclose their endgame (if they even have one) to the party. It's fun to see which Republicans are just blind followers and which actually have some balls.

They're beginning to realize that once you open that box, you can't just put the monster back in and close it up again.

Yeah, that monster....that let you retake the house, entrench a structural advantage through gerrymandering, and then cost you....nothing. Those rubes!

Latest plan is House Democrats plan to file a discharge petition on another piece of budget legislation and amend it to be a clean continuing resolution. Under a discharge petition, if they can get a majority of the House to sign the petition, the bill gets brought to the floor for a vote and circumvents needing to be brought up by the Speaker.

Best case scenario being that a clean CR gets passed, otherwise it'll test the "moderate" GOP members making noise about wanting this to end by putting them on record.

And we move on to the debt ceiling being the football? Not sure I'd qualify that as "best"

Right about now, I'm wondering what kind of guy John Boehner really is.

“This isn’t some damned game,” said Speaker John A. Boehner, his voice rising in anger. “The American people don’t want their government shut down, and neither do I. All we’re asking for is to sit down and have a discussion, reopen the government and bring fairness to the American people under Obamacare.”

Awww, how cute. Boehner is getting upset.

"All we're asking is for the President do do something unreasonable that he has no reason to do, because I and my party are a hot mess and we create our own problems and demand other people bend over to solve them. Because I've already lost enough face and, dammit, I just can't lose any more."

Just in general I can't really say I have much sympathy for anyone there complaining about any of the rest of them being unreasonable. It probably has something to do with them all being guilty of it, at least in my mind, at one point or another. Or maybe it's the giant paychecks they don't even really need or even care if they get. Or perhaps the fact that dealing with other unreasonable politicians is exactly what we hired them to do. I mean it's not like it was a mystery what they were walking into when they signed up for the job. If you don't like it don't run for office.

Now hush up and get back to work. Smiley: rolleyes

They won't. Redistricting made for a lot of secure districts. People in some R+6 district aren't going to vote Democrat even if the GOP literally burns down the Capitol building.

Senate races might be tighter though. Which is part of why you see more "choices of reason" from that chamber

Well, that's actually sort of true. The Park Police are still working since they're law enforcement. All the rest of the workers: the non-LEO Park Rangers, maintenance, first aid responders, etc are shut down. So everything from assisting visitors with directions to basic cleaning, sweeping, repairs and all the functions for the Park Service beyond chasing vandals and drunks away aren't happening. Some people seem to think that a large open area visited by thousands of people daily just magically keeps itself up.

So they don't have garbage collection, just like every other public place? Did they close the entire city because public garbage bins wont be cleaned? I think the point here is that someone made the decision to actually block access to memorials that are normally just open to anyone to walk around in. You don't need a person helping you to do this. Almost like someone wanted to make the shut down as painful for people as possible.

Yes, in addition to every other patron and maintenance service the park requires. But you apparently think the sum total of maintaining a large open air area visited by thousands of people is "empty the trash cans" so obviously you're not the person to talk to about this.
