...since I like to just drop in and tell you to go to college every now and then, a follow up:

You can't apply for public service loan forgiveness until 2017 (at least), but you can start getting your **** together now if you have federal loans. If you do, and there's any chance you'll be in a qualifying profession (state, federal, local government or a non profit and a few other things) try to get them consolidated into a direct consolidation loan. If you can do that, apply for income based repayment (or one of the other options that reduces your monthly payment) and fill out the form certifying that you're in a qualifying job (get a rep from your employer to sign). Start tracking your payments...you'll need 120 qualifying payments (that's payment on a direct loan, in an acceptable payment plan, while working for a qualifying employer)...but they don't need to be consecutive.

Check your loans on the nslds (it'll have them all, and any grants you received). FFEL loans don't qualify (well, you can still do income based repayment, but not the PSLF) but you may be able to re consolidate into a direct if you have a FFEL consolidation loan.

After 120, you'll be able to apply to have the rest forgiven. There, I dropped in with a PSA...proceed with your usual Friday night shenanigans.

Love,

Nexa

Speaking of student loans...

This week I will finish paying off loan #1 from my school. Hopefully I'll finish paying off the one from the Department of Education by the end of the year.

My last loan will be paid off before 2017. Which is annoying. I guess I could go back to school and rack up more debt just to have it paid off, but then who would ban the sockpuppets?

Everyone tells me I should go to school some time. Though in the past that's never been productive.

At least you got that far, some of us took the GRE then were too lazy to actually apply anywhere. Smiley: rolleyes

I make my last payment next month, and we pay off the wife's last one Feburary-ish. Very much looking forward to being done with the education gauntlet.

He'll have a few years break from finishing payments for his own education and starting payments for his kid's education.

I managed to get through university without taking on any debt, but I was fortunate to be able to stay at home for free, taking food and lodging out of the equation.

I'm a state/non-profit employee, and I probably won't have my federal loan paid off in the next 4 years... But I also won't have made 10 year's worth of payments, either. Smiley: lol

All my loans are finally consolidated through the Feds and my 6 month grace period ends in November. Thankfully, I got a job that pays enough $$$ that I can make an aggressive repayment schedule and knock them completely out in three years, assuming I stay here. Hooray for low cost of living expenses.

Also, welcome back. The new username is a bit of flame bait, though.
