Not all. I've not made a snide comment about it yet, nor do I plan to.

You're a silent Ameri-hater?

No, I just don't lack tact. At least not to the degree of others around here.

I consider you one of us for the purpose of my above comments (not to extend beyond that).

Was law-enforcement over-zealous in their attempts to capture the bad guys? Sure.

I don't even really agree with this. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to gasp and swoon that you'd use an armored vehicle in attempting to apprehend people who detonated two bombs and (from reports) the first one killed was throwing some sort of explosive during the fight. Or that the SWAT guys would (oh no!) have scary looking helmets and vests.

Cheers to the people who stayed inside for the day when requested. These days it seems hard enough to get people to pull over for an ambulance if it's going to momentarily inconvenience them much less stay out of the picture and let the police do their job.
I'm ok with the armored vehicle. I just think there were A LOT of law enforcement in one place.

Other area's had to have been lacking.

If someone would have been on top of things they'd have used that law enforcement vacuum to pull off a heist in elsewhere.

Maybe they did and you just haven't heard about it yet because no one was there to notice.

What vacuum? The city was saturated with law enforcement and activated soldiers.

I have no idea what the ratio was of local, state and federal authorities or how many men the Boston area can muster (calling everyone in, no days off, long shifts) so I guess I don't have an informed opinion about any law enforcement vacuums. I know Chicago sent a few guys to assist (I'm guessing some sort of specialists and not six beat cops); I assume the more local communities/cities sent men to help as well.

Barely related, there was a road flooded near me this past week and the cops had it blocked off for four days with a cop in a car parked across the road. Guessing there was another car on the other side of the hill, I was thinking "That's 192 hours of cops just sitting in their cars staring off into space and serving as a human roadblock." I wonder what you do for 8+ hours in your car. Catch up on paperwork?

Chase blues musicians, normally. That movie is really all I know of Chicago. I realize you don't live in Chicago, but to me your whole state is Chicago except for the part that is Indiana.

We literally all felt like victims?

I didn't. Our friends who live in Watertown didn't. You know what we all felt like? Like there was a good reality TV show on and the side we were rooting for won. That's what you saw. "Yay! My person won American Terrorist Idol!" not "Horay we are now safe and have closure!"

It's ok to admit it. It's not "too soon". It was a massive overreaction that worked out well. It was fun to watch. Enjoyable. People enjoyed watching the manhunt and the resolution. Pretending there was some deeper ethical reason for cheering at the end is banal and lazy.

I'm a fan over massive overreaction. Like those Japanese robot movies/shows where they get their *** kicked over and over until they go into Mecha-Zenoid Celestial Power form and use a single blast to kill the alien monster. Dudes, just make MZCP mode your default for everything except trips to the corner store.

I don't want to send in a guy on a horse and work our way up to Armored SWAT Vehicle.

Meh. In a hostage situation, sure. Too look for an armed fugitive, I think we could probably find a point beyond "let's wait for him to turn himself in" but before "let's shut the city down" that would be Pareto efficient.

I never really viewed Ugly as an "Ameri-Hater". I just thought that he believed in Canadian superiority. And maybe not even necessarily Canadian superiority so much as his own personal superiority.

Especially odd since Canada would react in essentially the same way. I guess if you send RCMP ERT somewhere they make tea and wear blindfolds to avoid infringing on anyone's rights where FBI HRT eats children and shoots puppies. Also the idea that Canadians would stand up against government asking them to remain indoors during a crisis is beyond ludicrous. They motto of Canada should be "we might not always like it, but we do what we're told, eh?"

Somehow this doesn't really impress me as being representative of the classic Bostonian urbanite.

Well you would know, I guess. You have lied here most of your life and interacted with people in Boston. Shouldn't you be out raking lobsters out of your garden?

I found TWO deer ticks on me Saturday after raking out a couple gardens.

You're eating too many salty foods, that's why you attracted deer ticks. If you start eating more butter you will be able to flush the lobsters out of hiding in the azaleas.
