Quote:
The U.S. will not be building a replica of the Death Star from Star Wars, despite a more than 34,000-signature-strong petition for the government to begin construction by 2016.

"The Administration does not support blowing up planets," wrote Paul Shawcross, the White House's science and space branch chief

Quote:
In addition to Obama's stance on inter-galactic warfare, Shawcross wrote that the U.S. would not invest in a Death Star because:

Construction costs have been estimated to exceed $850 quadrillion US, which would expand the deficit rather than reduce it.
The spacecraft has a "fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship."

Its probably for the best, I heard the rebels were massing in Sullust

I love Paul Shawcross. Instead of just ignoring the idea or giving a generic no he realizes the humor behind it and goes with it.

How narrow minded. Sure, it'd cost a lot now, but if you can adjust the power of the cannon, you could easily hold other countries hostage to pay tributes and have that money back in the span of a year or two, and then it's just profit.

Prices are still dropping, bugs are getting worked out.... We'd be better of to wait for iDeathStar 2.

Don't be silly. Everyone knows they'll eventually come out with a Death Star Mini. All the power of the original in a smaller form factor. Maybe we can even snag a Death Star Shuffle to hold us off in the mean time. Random planet distruction, hey-ooooooooooo.
