Someone I graduated with from high school posted a petition today on FaceBook for Tennessee to secede from the union.

What. The. Fuck.

So I did a quick Google search, an apparently 17 states (not including TN) are getting these petitions together. The GOP can be such drama queens.

Right on the piece of paper that looks like the Confederate Flag.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, all of the Romney won all of the "Confederate States", or at least most of them. Maybe this is Romney's 3rd, 4th(?) chance to being president. This would also allow us to take in Puerto Rico without having to change our flag! Win/Win if you ask me.

Although, that would make my home of record a foreign country.....

How many stars do you imagine Puerto Rico rates?

We'll have to, if not the gravitational pull will drag the other stars in forming a Super Giant. Then it's only a matter of time before it starts dragging in stars from other countries' flags; until it collapses into a Neutron Star and kills us all.

Georgia can secede, sure, but we want Athens and Savannah to become territories of Vermont. Or Canada.

Most places these twits name saying they going to move to are that way too.

I saw an image of this on facebook a couple days ago. I was stunned that Oregon was one of the states highlighted.

Well, that's the thing. Oregon is really more purple than blue. The more urban areas in Oregon, like Portland and Eugene, are really blue and their populations outnumber the rural areas of Oregon which tend to vote red. Even if the petition got enough signatures to make it on a ballot, it wouldn't be approved. Provided liberals have no interest in seceding.

I'm actually kind of torn on the issue. On the one hand, I would love to not have to deal with the psychotic tea party politicians from red states having a say on our laws. On the other hand, my immediate gut reaction to this is something along the lines of: CONSERVATIVE MELT DOWN!!!! RUN AWAY! That said, I don't think Oregon would survive on its own, so I'd probably vote no on it if it did make it to a ballot.

This is so very petulant. Like a kid who has been told he's not allowed ice cream for dinner.

Yeah, it makes far more sense for the liberals to say they're moving to Canadia when a Republican wins office. My wife and I were discussing it in '08, and I mentioned it to my mom last week.

It really doesn't have much to do with that. Solid blue states have some petitions too. Conservative crazies can live anywhere. And I imagine if you're super conservative in a solid blue state, the crazy is only likely to be amplified.

A lot of these are using the new petition system that Obama unveiled at the White House website (ironically) that allows people to create and sign petitions there, directly.

So you have one bit of crazy hiding in MA? Petition from it. Etc.

The most hilarious part is that these people are all so stupid that you'll get multiple petitions from the same state, just for that extra bit of insurance that this will never go anywhere.

It's funny because it's true.

And then once the state gets independent, their county has to petition because the state is too liberal. Of course the county seat is full of socialist freeloaders as well, best to not be associated with them. Lord knows that the faux conservatives living on the other side of the tracks from you aren't much better. Neither is your neighbor with his constant whining about some neighborhood leash pet policy thing.

Obviously the only logical choice is to grab your gun, barricade yourself inside your living room, and refuse to give any money to that damn commie wife of yours WHO THREATENED TO SHUT OFF THE CABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CORNHUSKERS GAME IF YOU DON'T TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

I heard on some forum that NC asked to secede. It was the first (and only) time I heard about it. The liberal media must be hiding that info from us average joes.

I was just saying the other day that I wished there were nation-wide initiatives, like they have on state and local levels. Looks like I may have to eat my words on that one...

Some of these petitions are hilarious. Outlaw insulting religious prophets is a good one. Hell, lets start censoring the internet while we're at it..

I dunno if you are being serious or not, because I didn't really read the whole discussion. If serious 10% of 3.7 million is less than 1/4 the entire current muslim population in the US.

I really, really wish we could deport people who complain about paying taxes for infrastructure and the basic essential necessities of life to an untouched wilderness.

BIG Shame we don't have any excess untouched wildernesses any more.
