And I was stupid and believed him, though in retrospect, he was totally lying.

Lol! Had a boatload of work drop on my head a few weeks ago. Of the "completely re-architect our software environment in order to allow for a use case that falls outside of the use cases agreed upon 2+ years ago because some company has decided that its too hard for them to recompile their software" variety. Not sure what you mean. Electric cars don't normally move if their batteries are dead. Do you mean that the batteries wont recharge if fully depleted? I had not heard anything about that. I do know that both the Volt and the Fisker had issues with possible battery fires. Haven't heard anything about the Tesla having this issue, but then they're pretty darn new.

Buy those cars damn it. I'm making almost the entire aluminum frame at work... And the first production vehicles have frames components that probably still have my fingerprints all over them! Now as the machines are nearing production rates I've handed over them to normal operators, but for the first runs I was working late hours building, running, troubleshooting, checking, etc.

I really hope they sell well, and not just a "oh look pretty" for the first year and then nothing after that.

Not that I am aware of. Our CEO just came back from visiting them either last week or the week before. And the vehicle hit the streets around the same time.

The owner is one of the founders of Paypal and also has that SpaceX company.

Decent assumption! Looks like the linked article was a bit overblown. The problem is real, but you have to be really really stupid or negligent for it to happen. Basically have to drain the battery as far as it'll let you and then leave it unplugged for days. Or just leave it unplugged for 3months or so from a full charge. Not something most people would do, but I can see how it would be a d'oh moment if it happened (and expensive one at that).

Apparently, they're putting in increased safety features in the model S so that it goes into some kind off deep sleep mode when under 5% battery. You could still brick it if you left it unplugged for long enough after that point. But then you could brick a leaf doing the same thing.
