I was out with Jr. once and he found like a $5 on the floor and he was THRILLED. I didn't have the heart to tell my shortie to turn it in to customer service or whatever.

Once when I was a kid (living with my single mother who work min. Wage jobs, so pretty poor) I found 20 bucks on the playground. I was overjoyed. As I was walking home with a big grin on my face I ran into some other kid who asked me why I was so happy. I told him this'd found 20 bucks and he said "oh that was mine"

And I was stupid and believed him, though in retrospect, he was totally lying.

No, it's a wealth redistribution scheme created due to class envy and a desire to enslave the black race through reliance on the government.

I mean... duh.
It's just obvious.
Huh? I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Huh. I was starting to take your extended absence and go from "Haha, maybe he's off [doing silly thing]" to "Man, I hope he didn't have a massive heart attack and die or something".

Damn my bleeding liberal heart for starting to worry about others! Soldier on!

Lol! Had a boatload of work drop on my head a few weeks ago. Of the "completely re-architect our software environment in order to allow for a use case that falls outside of the use cases agreed upon 2+ years ago because some company has decided that its too hard for them to recompile their software" variety. Still poking around and catching up on stuff. You guys miss me? Smiley: cool

I was doing a behind the scenes investigation trying to figure out which Asylum poster you had pushed over the edge to the point where they drove to San Diego, put you in a duffle bag with a couple of dumbells, and threw you into Glorietta Bay.

Nope. But in related news, I did get my check from said GestapoIRS. Haven't had time to do a damn thing beyond deposit it though.

If I were going to go electric, one of these is suspiciously conveniently priced.

Aren't those the ones that brick if the battery gets fully depleted?

Not sure what you mean. Electric cars don't normally move if their batteries are dead. Do you mean that the batteries wont recharge if fully depleted? I had not heard anything about that. I do know that both the Volt and the Fisker had issues with possible battery fires. Haven't heard anything about the Tesla having this issue, but then they're pretty darn new.

Yes, that the battery died completely if it lost charge.

Ah, here ya go...
Quote:
Tesla Motors' lineup of all-electric vehicles — its existing Roadster, almost certainly its impending Model S, and possibly its future Model X — apparently suffer from a severe limitation that can largely destroy the value of the vehicle. If the battery is ever totally discharged, the owner is left with what Tesla describes as a "brick": a completely immobile vehicle that cannot be started or even pushed down the street. The only known remedy is for the owner to pay Tesla approximately $40,000 to replace the entire battery. Unlike practically every other modern car problem, neither Tesla's warranty nor typical car insurance policies provide any protection from this major financial loss

Not that I assumed you were actually running out to buy one anyway.

Buy those cars damn it. I'm making almost the entire aluminum frame at work... And the first production vehicles have frames components that probably still have my fingerprints all over them! Now as the machines are nearing production rates I've handed over them to normal operators, but for the first runs I was working late hours building, running, troubleshooting, checking, etc.

I really hope they sell well, and not just a "oh look pretty" for the first year and then nothing after that.

Not that I am aware of. Our CEO just came back from visiting them either last week or the week before. And the vehicle hit the streets around the same time.

The owner is one of the founders of Paypal and also has that SpaceX company.

Decent assumption! Looks like the linked article was a bit overblown. The problem is real, but you have to be really really stupid or negligent for it to happen. Basically have to drain the battery as far as it'll let you and then leave it unplugged for days. Or just leave it unplugged for 3months or so from a full charge. Not something most people would do, but I can see how it would be a d'oh moment if it happened (and expensive one at that).

Apparently, they're putting in increased safety features in the model S so that it goes into some kind off deep sleep mode when under 5% battery. You could still brick it if you left it unplugged for long enough after that point. But then you could brick a leaf doing the same thing.

Huh. Must have tapped in to some alternate dimension at some point to get that notion. Maybe Tesla is out of business in gbajiland?
