Well, he is a bit of a doofus, but he's not a moron like she seems to think. There was one argument between the two of them not too long ago where he protested that he was smart because to be a Templar you had to have a pretty extensive education. It's essentially the same as the sisters for the Chantry go through. I think that's a pretty fair assessment. I do love the antics between the two of them though. I'm not generally a big fan of conflict, but the conflict between them is pretty funny. Oh and once you develop a relationship with Alistair, and you talk to Morrigain, her responses are pretty funny. She makes a comment about how she doesn't get what I see in him because he's such an idiot. One of the options is to reply, "He may be an idiot, but he's my idiot." I picked that one. Smiley: grin It gave me a good chuckle.

Smiley: lol

Yeah Morrigan's and Alistair's interactions have to be about my favorite so far. The two personalities just bounce off of each other so well it's entertaining to watch. Admittedly Alistair is growing on me the more time I spend around him. I'm not sure if that's due to anything he's doing, or if it's simply the fact the only other male romance option recently tried to kill me. Smiley: rolleyes

Though I'll have to romance him and talk to Morrigan now. That sounds like fun. Smiley: grin

As a woman you can romance Leliana too.

Oh I know. I tried going that route, but I screwed something up with her once Alistair started developing feelings for me. I was trying to do the thing where you say you'll talk to the other person, then you let them down gently so they're still in love with you, but then stay with the other person. That got messed up, and Leliana went from almost being in love with me, to now being "friendly." So I think I'll have to use one of the special gifts to get her affection lower and see if I can get her interested in me again.

Ultimately what I'm trying to do for my ending is become queen, but have Leliana still in love with me, so she'll stay on as my mistress. From what I've read, if you harden Alistair and he loves you, he will want to make you queen no matter if you're a human noble or not. And if you harden Leliana, she's willing to be your mistress. So, we'll see.

I'll have to keep that thing about Oghren in mind. I'm using Alistair as my tank, Leliana as a bard/ranger archer for picking chests and undoing traps, my character as the DD mage, and Morrigan as my healer. So I don't know that I actually have room to have him in my party, but I guess I could beef up my character's healing spells once I get all her damage spells finished, so she can heal instead.

If you haven't yet, get Crushing Prison. On Morrigan too. That's easily the best standard spell tree in the game. You'll waste one point on one of the mages with Telekinetic Weapons, but it would literally be worth spending 4 points just to get CP, even if you didn't get anything else.

Toss that on the Mage and the Leader of the group, laugh as you pick off all the minions in the meantime. When they unfreeze, force field the leader and then burn down the mage.

Congratulations, you should never die again.

I've thought about it, but the blood mage guide on gamefaqs says it's not worth it once you get blood wound. So far in this game, with how many neat items I have, I have a much less harder time staying alive. If I start having problems again though, I'll pick up Crushing Prison. As of right now, Morrigan has the first two spells in that tree, so it shouldn't take too long to pick it up.

Oh and protein, I don't like Jowan, does that count? =x I haven't gotten Oghren or Shale yet, so I can't comment on them. Wynne is pretty cool for the most part. She does seem a bit preachy sometimes, but I know she means well. Sten kind of bores me, but I'll admit that his comment about how awesome cookies are made me giggle. I guess thus far, none of the companions really bother me. I wouldn't say I genuinely like all of them, but I don't dislike any.

I loved Sten. He approves of you when you yell at him. Smiley: laugh

The only way I've been able to keep both Alistair and either Zev or Leliana on the side is to not have the "omg I love you" talk with Alistair until the Landsmeet, and then not talk to your lover in camp until after the coronation.

How come I'm struck with Ohgren now that I'm into Awakenings? And is there something wrong with providing me with a bloody tank?

I need to play Awakenings. I tried once and got offended that the people from Origins acted as though they vaguely remembered me as the kid who delivered their newspapers or something as opposed to the leader who fundamentally changed their lives.

Go to the marsh area if you want to recruit a tank.

So far, my options are some dude's fields, a cove and Amarinthe. The little harlot that accompanied me earlier on went and got herself pwned by a goblet.

Do you guys customize your tactics pages or use one of the built in ones? So far I've been using the built in ones, which mostly work, but I'm wondering if taking some time and actually building my own is worth it or not.

I usually tweak the existing ones, mainly to add in a "Use poultice on X% health" line and as they get new powers (especially for casters). Leliana I set to pure ranged as opposed to default which has her rushing into melee all too often.

I did tweak the healing settings, as the default healing setup for wynne seemed to be mainly about healing herself, and occasionally healing other party members if they were really close to death.

No so much so far; I'd be curious to know what other people do though. Smiley: grin

Mostly I'll take the default and edit it. So things like "target nearest enemy" will get changed to "target of <tank>" or something similar. I'll usually up health<25% to health <50% on heal so I don't get too nervous, or get crushed when my healer gets knocked down or stunned or something.

Like I mentioned in my rant in the BDT I've pretty much taken most of my CC spells off of the tactics lists. Morrigan was set as a "controller" for me for the longest time, but the logic behind what she was doing was getting on my nerves. So I set her to "damage" and just CC manually now. I'm not sure that's really the best way to do it, but it's a temporary solution at least. Smiley: frown

I set them to the default tactics slot settings, such as archer, healer, etc. Then I change to either ranged/aggressive leave most of those action slots alone, but might change something. Much like Joph, with Polstice/Lyrium. Not a big fan of most of the rogue specializations so went with Beastmaster and made sure calling those were on there.

I set Morrigan to cast Sleep on clusters of 4+ and that seemed to work well. Other CC abilities like Paralyze or Petrify I'd do manually as needed. I kept Mass Paralyze as manual as well just so she didn't fire it off needlessly given its slow refresh time.

Yeah, I like to play more defensively with my healers, so I change the healing tactics so that Wynne will toss out her spells earlier.

I also remove the regen spells, and I like to manually manage group heal.

Heroic Offense I manually manage, for burning, but Heroic Defense is set up to keep up with the tank.

Like most everyone else, I tweak them. Alistair's are pretty much fine. I just stick him on aggressive so he charges in and makes sure to go after all the things. Leliana and Morrigan I keep on ranged so they stick near me. Morrigan's spells and stuff I've tweaked with a bit, just to make her a better healer and all. She doesn't deal with CC at all. Me being a blood mage and all, affliction hex + blood wound works just find in that capacity.

Morrigan healing never sat well with me. I've given her the first rank heal spell before just as back up in case Wynne bites it or isn't in the party but I always focused her on Entropy and then some various DD/CC abilities.

Morrigan amuses me. Plus, if you get the mod that allows you to respec people, she can be just as good a healer as Wynne. She may suffer in the mana regen department, but her heals pack more oomph. That's based on the skills they get via reputation of course. Now, when I play through the game at a later date as a rogue, I will probably have them both in their default roles.

Oh, I'm not worried about her skills. Personality-wise and within the game, I can't see her as a healer. When I have her as my sole caster, I rely on poultices, adequate CC and overwhelming displays of brute force.

That is a very valid point. When you're in the village of Haven, and you find Brother Genitivi in the back room of the Chantry, and my character turned to Morrigan and asked her if she could do anything to help, I was a bit like "Huh? Oh yeah, she's my healer."

I usually just give Morrigan whatever the first healing spell is and set her to use when people hit 25% or below, but I've never set her up as a main healer. If I wasn't too lazy to bother with making potions and stuff, I wouldn't even bother giving her that one healing spell.

The dog goes after the nearest caster, or attacks anything attacking the healer. Mages and melees attack the tank's target, everyone uses health or mana potions as needed (about 30% except for hard fights or the end game when I bump health potion use up to 50%).

And yeah, mages and Leliana are ranged, and I disable Leliana's melee stun.

There's more but I can't think of them right now.

Heh, I never surrendered before after the rescue. Always just fought my way out (usually painfully and repeatedly until success). Never realized I was missing out on a little side jaunt that way.
