Besides, maybe the donut was made with whole wheat flour instead of white and maybe the chocolate dip was made with splenda. At that point, it would actually become a recommended breakfast item.

At that point, it wouldn't be on a TV reality show.

Dunkin Donuts, chocolate covered or no, are exceedingly high in transfats. They also taste like crap.

There's a hot dog joint across the river from my office. They also make donuts. Their molasses donut is possibly one of the seven wonders of the world.

Good thing it's on the other side of the river.

What's wrong with chocolate donuts for breakfast?

Diabetes?

Nevermind that the family in question was morbidly obese.

Donuts for breakfast aren't going to get you diabetes, there's far more to it than that. Besides, maybe the donut was made with whole wheat flour instead of white and maybe the
chocolate dip was made with splenda. At that point, it would actually become a recommended breakfast item.

I'm not convinced splenda is a healthy alternative. Chocolate doesn't need to be made with a ton of sugar to be tasty. Cheap chocolates are mostly sugar and fats though.

For a diabetic? Yea, Splenda is definitely a healthy alternative.

Yeah, those people are fat fucks. But for most people, a chocolate covered doughnut isn't really that horrible for breakfast. Treats, in moderation, can be good for you. And my personal belief is that a 'bad' breakfast is better than none at all.

I'm not sure I agree with that. It's the conventional wisdom, but I see no advantage to spiking blood sugar early in the day.

That's why you get the ones with the bacon on them. All that fat should help slow absorption of the sugar, right?

I'd guess that non-diabetics have a fairly low blood sugar level after waking, and a small spike might be a good thing. I don't think eating a plate of rock candy would be a good thing, but a doughnut or two with some chocolate frosting wouldn't be horrible. Personally, I typically eat oatmeal, just to help keep cholesterol down.

I know I can't start the day without coffee, and I don't drink coffee without drowning it in sugar.

Or Baileys.

Actually, you're supposed to get two things for breakfast: a quick complex carb fix to wake you up (best in the form of an apple or whole wheat toast) and a slower protein/fat fix to last you until lunch (eggs and bacon!) Simple carbs and fat without the protein are asking for a post carb crash a few hours after breakfast, and next thing you know you're noshing on a snickers bar to keep going.

Worst. Thing. Ever... for me anyway.

I had to actually cut sugar from my coffee because I was crashing at 10 am every day.

That's the instant scrambled eggs right? I had that at the PX, had to dump salt and pepper on it to make it stop tasting like soggy cardboard. Smiley: frown

Enough about the salsa! With you it's salsa this or salsa that. God, if anyone ever made a salsa vodka, you'd turn alcoholic. Smiley: clown
