Can we change gbaji's title to that, actually?

Should be this:

You're starting with an assumed motive (unsubstantiated at that) and them moving backwards and forcing all actions you see to fit into that assumption.

So in other words, EVERY GBAJI POST EVER.

Way back in chemistry class, we were told to think of it as hydrogen hydroxide when we were studying acids. The whole H+ OH- thing.

Today is supposed to be the day we hit 7 Billion peeps. I've heard that instead of declaring a seven-millionth baby, they're going to give the kudo's to a symbolic baby.

The Symbolic Earth Baby. Smiley: smile

There's a little visualization video here about world population growth. It's pretty obvious stuff, but I liked the colors and the sound of the water plinking.

This video however, makes a claim towards the end that experts predict our population will plateau at around 10billion.

If we were given, say, a lifetime (75-100 years) to find a new world for overflow population, do you think we should pursue creating an independent space-station to call home, or should we attempt to colonize another chunk of rock?

Or...maybe we could create a planet (in a laboratory) or build an addition on to this one.

I would think Mars would be our best bet. It'd require terraforming to make it suitable for plants and other life, and that's a bit out of our reach. We'd have to, you know, get there first.

But 100 years of scientific advancement? Who knows?

well considering in 2061 we will develop warp drive technology it shouldn't be an issue. Heck everything else from star trek has more or less come to be, holograms, universal communication devices (smart phones and tablets), super small computers and so on and so forth. Its like someone came from the future to gives us a TV show to show us the future.

We don't have a commercial jet-pack that really works.

But you know what really boggles me as far as lack of technology goes - the inability to fix aging eyesight.

People are practically immortal these days, but still, once past about 45, they can't see without their drug-store reading glasses. Smiley: confused

Lasik doesn't work for hardening of the lens, or whatever causes the loss of focus on close up stuff. They don't even really know.

Nah, Im not even a fan of startrek I just find it funny how all the at the time crazy technology is now available, Tablets, Smart Phones, Voice Recognition, Computers that can control everything, holographic projection, synthetic foods. If we find particles that travel at faster than the speed of light, and harness that as a power source we could in theory have "warp" technology as well.

I'll bet you $200 that doesn't happen in our lifetime.

Yeah, I hear Jerry Pournelle go on about all the tech stuff he wrote about back in the sixties that he can now use. What I'm interested in is Asimov's "knuckle" reactors, miniature inches-long personal power sources.
