(4) Democratic Profit!

Gov. Perdue wrote:
I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. You want people who don't worry about the next election.

I don't really buy that she was "tongue-in-cheek" in that she was just kidding. I do think that she said it knowing it would never happen (it would require a Constitutional amendment) but, as a theoretical move, she thought would be a good idea. As in "Everyone spends more time worrying about getting re-elected than they worry about doing their job" which is certainly no new complaint.

Had she suggested suspending the presidential election, I suppose there would be a little more to ***** about. Not really though given the improbable nature of her suggestion.

All this says to me is that Gov. Perdue needs to save the bellyaching for a less public forum, and that her PR staff aren't very good at their jobs.

I wish that politicians were unconcerned with getting re-elected as well. Except, y'know, the incentive to get re-elected is the basis for nearly all representative government.

Yet you both agree that it was her handler doing a poor job, therefore reinforcing this behavior. A bit of hypocrisy there. If a politician can't make a good-natured joke without being called an unpatriotic constitution-burner, then they're of course going to spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about their public image.

If you believe she was joking it's not tough to see why you're a middle-aged waitress.

Politician says something stupid. Stay tuned for in-depth analysis and interviews with hysterical witnesses. Plus bonus coverage of previous blunders "I didn't inhale," "Mission Accomplished," and many more!

If you don't know that suggesting suspending the democratic process for the sake of the economy is anathema to liberty and freedom you should be run out of town on a rail. Unfortunately Democrats simply do not care about freedom and liberty. Would you rather her opinions on the subject of liberty and freedom be kept secret?
When did you begin to care about liberty and freedom?

Looking bad for Democrats.

Do you have any thoughts (of your own) on this matter, or are you just gonna let the media speak for you?

Is Cain still running? He seems to have vanished completely. With how the debates are going for everyone else, that's actually a really good strategy on his part.

Actually, he apparently did very well at the last GOP debate and won the Florida strawpoll. By some polling, he's in the lead. I suspect that's a short lived trend, but he's definitely not out of it.
