Huh? Of course the insurance companies don't have a reason to change the status quo. Why would they? That's like arguing that a grocery store doesn't have a reason to fight to eliminate food stamps. Um... Duh!

It's the government which creates those strict controls and regulations. It's the government which creates insurance requirements which artificially increase demand for health insurance. It's the government which creates coverage requirements so that insurance companies "have no choice" but to provide you with coverage for more than you probably want or need. It's not their fault, of course, but they'll have to charge you for the increased coverage!

What many don't understand is its the people that make over 35k(this puts you above most states medicaid programs) that drive up health care cost. Even those with insurance are more responsible then poor. When it comes to keeping your car, food or a roof over your head you don't pay medical bills. If you have insurance you get treated get the 20% bill and since as long as your paying they can't report on you. So sending $20 is enough to prevent that no matter the expense.

If you know people might not pay the 20% or a ER bill you have to make the cost up some where IE charging more or services so you get more out of the 80% you will get paid and get it faster. Hospitals love the poor they know they will get paid most of the time in full or share of cost which is around $800 in the high range(example 15 years ago when I broke my leg it was 10k to set it with pins so whats $800). The first thing they do is send in a social worker to get you on medicaid if you are below the income level.

Heart meds are crazy expensive though. One of mine before my transplant ran around $500 for generic
After it even worse for my anit-rejection meds runs around 1800 for 2 a mouth again this is for generics and not all of the meds I have to take.
