You left out the part where the socialists use that argument to get people to accept a new tax to fund the needed fire department, then they'll use half that money to fund the fire department and the other half to fund other important social programs which weren't scary enough in their absence to get approval for the tax. Then, because they aren't actually funding the fire department well enough with the existing tax revenue, they'll use the fact that they still don't have enough hoses and fire engines and cute dogs to really be effective at putting out fires to argue for yet more taxes next year! Oh! And they'll have to make sure there's enough in the budget to put on a really good show for the yearly Pride Parade.
