Using what?
Just the OOT.
Hell of a gateway drug.

Wine to cook with, or drink? I don't care for the taste of wine personally, but my boss (who gives me cooking advice all the time... where I want it or not) says that the taste of a wine-based dish is directly reliant upon the taste of the wine used to make it. Crappy wine makes for a worse tasting dish.

No idea if it's true. Ick, wine.
How good wine tastes has more to do with how expensive it is then how it actually tastes.

The ol' widening income gap...again. What's up with that?

Though it wasnt unique, the last 10 years of wealth redistribution have been utterly blatant and transparent.

After all do you all remember when teachers, public employees, middle class business owners and Joe Bloggs down the road crashed the stock market, wiped out half of your 401Ks, took trillions in TARP money, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes? Not to mention profited from wars all over the place that have cost you, the taxpayer in the region of $trillions? Yeah, me neither.

Enjoy your wine Smiley: smile

While it's clear that housing costs have risen, I suspect that the rise of the "toil index" is as much or more affected by the rapid decline in the quality of our public schools as the increase in housing costs. What's happened is that in order to live in a "good" public school district, you have to live in a nicer part of town with more expensive homes than you did back in the 70s. The cost to rent an apartment in an urban neighborhood isn't much more expensive relatively speaking than it was 40 years ago. But the combination of failed public education policies and suburban flight has made the school districts in the areas with the highest population densities so horrifically bad that they fall right out of the criteria used in the index, thus dramatically skewing the results.

Eliminate the somewhat arbitrary requirement to live in a good public school district and I suspect that the numbers haven't changed much.

I like cheap wine because I'm a cheap hussy. I usually get Yellow Tail.

I usually get a bottle of some local white for $12-15. Most often it's from Millbrook, being only a few miles away.

I usually drink cheap stuff because the expensive stuff is really not much better. Wine connoisseurship is for the most part a hoity toity fairy tale. Barefoot and Gallo Family make some good cheap wines. I've even tried a number of boxed wines that are perfectly acceptable.

Do you blame them for using their wealth and influence for perpetuating the systemic policies that ensure their continued wealth?

Personally I'm not one to blame anyone for anything, but I guess I appreciate the fine line between that and telling someone what is wrong with them.

Well, I can tell the difference between a $5 bottle of wine and a $20 bottle of wine, but I can't tell the difference between a $20 bottle of wine and a $100 bottle of wine.

I prefer to get wines directly from wineries when possible anyway. You can get a tasting and "try before you buy" - I've had some pretty awesome and random wines, including one just last month that tasted exactly like a vegetable cracker. You also get a cheaper price, since there's no shipping costs or distributor/store markups.
