Yeah, there's been a significant amount of butthurt going around still, but not enough to really do anything. There was a big hubbub soon after Branstad took office, because the house tried to put up a bill called "The preservation of the morality of marriage act" (or something equally discriminatory) that would, of course, make same sex marriages illegal by amendment, and Branstad said if it reached his desk, he would sign it immediately. There was a pretty huge outcry against this bill, and it was shot down before it even was around for a couple of days.
I hate Iowa but I feel pretty lucky to live in a state where we do allow same-sex marriage. I'm a little fearful because for some reason we re-elected the stereotypically conservative people-pleaser Branstad, and he seems willing to undo any social progress we've had in the state over the past decade. Our only saving grace has been the democratic Senate - otherwise, gay marriage would have already been banned again, along with abortion. There's already been formal outcry from him specifically because one doctor from Omaha moved his practice across state lines because of our slightly more lax abortion laws. I dunno. The conservatives make a lot of talk and hoopla, but let's face it, they really haven't gotten **** done. They spent at least 3 weeks debating whether or not they should ban "K2", a synthetic marijuana substitute, because some teenage committed suicide after smoking it, but couldn't even get that done.
