I'm guessing there's zero chance you could tell the difference. That and you have no idea what "irony" means.

ETA: You forget, I've watched you stumble around trying to apply "logic". Hahahaha, oh good times, good times.

Doesn't matter, all that matters is the narrative from the cable news outlets. I haven't been watching, but if they're admitting that she basically can't possibly **** it up, then it'll be a rationalish reaction. Given the poor selling point of "don't bother watching, it's meaningless" I suspect the story is still "this is the most important speech of her life, my life, your life, the history of the world!!! Henry at Agincourt? Nothing! Antony at Ceasar's funeral? Meaningless! Gettysburg Adress? Four Score and what a bore! All that matters is here, all that matters is now. Will it be railin palin or Silly Sally? Stay tuned and find out!!"

It fills the time when I'm not playing cards for pots larger than your yearly salary or hanging out with my ludicrously beautiful genius girlfriend. I guess I could play WoW instead, or post about my hard knock life raising my retarded kid sister. Different strokes.

Lol. Already building up the excuses in case she delivers a really great speech, I see.

Um... Not to be obvious or anything, but isn't the ability to give a good speech pretty much the only qualification your guy has?

Nope. He has the ability to communicate and inspire people. If Palin does that, you guys might lose by 10 less Electoral votes or so. If McCain could do it, he'd have been President a decade ago.

I know plenty. I like how you assume you know things about someone to make a ludicrous counter-argument though. As for being out of my depth, I really couldn't care. You see, I'm not worried about matching wits or fitting in or any of that crap. If I was, I'd have left this site long ago. No, I like to sit on the outside and point out people being stupid. See if you can figure out that relates to me posting in this thread.

Huh? I said the same thing earlier. It's a speech written for her which she's been practicing for days and will deliver to a friendly crowd who'll cheer every applause line. She'd have to be a drooling mongloid to fuck it up.

For the record, yes, I realize that this describes pretty much every major convention speech.

I'm more curious why Palin hasn't been allowed to give any interviews or engage in any unscripted talk since she was announced.

I really wish this damn convention would get the @#%^ out of my city.

Minneapolis was spit polished for this crap. I'm surprised that they didn't bleach the @#%^ing river so the horrible smell of it wouldn't waft over the cities and upset the politicians. For weeks on end leading up to this shindig, there were city workers scrubbing the grout in the sidewalks, powerwashing the slabs, and shining up the shiny things. Businesses have poured fat wads into recarpeting and renovations, practically everything connected to the skyway system has gotten a complete face lift.

I hear St.Paul blew even more money on this crap than Minneapolis did. It astounds me. It really, honestly, astounds me how much money was dumped into this event. It's the multi-billion dollar equivalent to getting out the good china for guests, then switching back to dixie cups and paper plates when they leave.

But, I will say, wherever they shipped the homeless to, I hope they don't ship them back, it's nice to be able to walk the two blocks from the bus stop to work, and not get asked for change four or five times.

Best post of the thread.

Not allowed? That's an interesting spin.

Do VP picks normally go out and give speeches during the first days of the convention leading up to their announcement as VP? I wasn't aware that it was strange at all for them to stay out of the limelight during the first couple days...

Did Biden go out and give a string of speeches and public appearances between the Friday he was announced (technically that Saturday) and when he appeared and gave his speech at the convention on Wednesday? I don't honestly recall either way, but I don't think he did.

Is it unusual then? And if not, why mention it as though it is?

Well. Not really. More kinda confuzzled about how someone who supports a candidate who's major political breakthrough occurred as a direct result of a really good speech at a political convention can downplay the importance of a really good speech at a political convention.

My irony-o-meter was going off full blast is all... ;)

Yes, pretty much always. Unless the campaign thinks the pick was a giant mistake and needs to control their interaction with the media. You could blame the hurricane fairly plausibly though. I'd go with that.

Here's the difference: Obama's speech was a launching pad for his career. Massive amount at stake. He could catapult himself into the show or he could be a nobody. Palin's speech is a test to see if she can walk and chew gum at the same time, only not that hard.

Yeah, he did some talk. I'm not about to go scratching for his entire schedule in that frame but here's a cite of an admittably softball interview (still more than Palin's done).

In Palin's case though, it's even more glaring since no one knows jack about her. Just my guess but I'd assume she's having the McCain Issues Party Line drilled into her so she can actually pretend to have an answer when she's asked about foreign policy or immigration or intelligence agencies or other things previously well outside her scope.
