Global warming is a crockFollow

The human impact on the Earth's ecosystem has expanded gradually (but at an increasingly accelerated rate) ever since we got those opposable thumb thingies. Or ever since Eve bit the apple. Whatever.

Global Warming is largely accepted by the scientific community. Geologists and climatologists and some other ologists have scientific data showing the Earth goes through regular periods of warming and cooling. Whether or not the current warming cycle is being caused by or getting too much help from humans is not something that can be concretely determined.

The doom sayers tell us global warming is the trigger that will herald the end for humanity. Ice caps melting, sea levels rising, ozone layers dissapearing, bottom-of-the-food-chain types being wiped out and starting cascading die-offs all along the way up the food chain, etc.

Why focus on global warming though? Humans are not the type to just try one thing. With all the billions of people in the world all trying to get ahead of the game, we've come up with plenty of other ways to ruin the planet.

Invasive species are taking over whole regions of the globe and causing die-offs of native flora and fauna, changing whole ecosystems. Radioactive waste, oil spills, strip-mining, deforestation .. i'd say our play book is pretty full.

If all industrialised nations made giant leaps toward curbing emissions and engaged in proactive restoration of the environment we'd still have all that other stuff.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure global warming is real and a major threat, but it's just the latest one we've recognized.

By the way, you all have way too much time on your hands. I wish I could post more but I have to work at least a little bit while I'm on the clock.

That whitch does not kill us, makes us stronger. Let global warming happen. If we're causing it, more power to us. When things go to crap, we'll adapt, evolve, and find new ways to survive. Natural evolution of the species. Maybe we'll become super heat resistant humans and go colonize Mercury.

Lots of valid points on both sides. Surf around those two sites for more info.

Lol, I would not be too concerned with it though, don't let it scare you...

Let Apophis scare you. :x

Global Warming < Apophis :P

Edit: Found this too~ "At one point, astronomers said the uncertainty factor about 2004 MN4 allowed for a 1-in-40 chance of a collision on Friday, April 13, 2029."

Kind of creepy. >.>

I wonder why not? Can anyone with relevant knowledge attempt to explain why "Armageddon" can't be re-enacted in real life? Not necessarily by a nuclear device, being 330 metres across, it's a big rock, I'm sure that had it been stationary, a ton of TNT would do the job.

Ok, let it be known that scientists have no fricking clue as to what is happening to our global ecosystem. Have average temperatures risen in recent years? Sure, but that does not mean **** sapiens (or just plain ol' **** in bhodi's case) need to go all kneejerk and start legislating CO2 mandates in a confused effort to somehow control greenhouse gasses.

Some scientists believe that this is just a cycle and that it is just the hot part of the cycle we are in, and eventually the world will cool naturally.

A lot of the scientific community agree that greenhouse gases contribute to global warming and that because of the recent explosion of population, thus the increase in pollution, the natural cycle of warming and cooling the world does over hundreds or thousands of years is getting out of control.

The action they are taking is correct, and more than logical based on past events. In the 1980's the governments of the world would not pass legislation for banning the use of CFC’s (Chlorofluoro compounds). This lead to years of research that confirmed the scientists’ theories that they were destroying the ozone layer, causing massive ozone damage because of the sluggish responsiveness of the government. They are now taking the policy of "stopping it before it gets so bad it’s irreversible"

I would personally rather have SOME effort to control greenhouse gases than no effort at all.

If you do not see eye to eye with me than that is your prerogative, but please dont have one sided views. You need to look at all of the facts before you make your mind up.

Edit: and if you belive the actions were outragious for CO2 legislation, the EPA ordered its first all out banned use of a chemical for the first time. They banned the chemical PFOA(Perfluorooctanoic acid; the chemical DuPont uses in Teflon) and ordered them to pay a 900 Million+ fine on not reporting the health risks it presented to people in high doses.

out of the (i think) 7 children born to mothers who were exposed to high levels of PFOA 5 had birth defects, one baby was born with “one nostril and eye defect”; the other had an “unconfirmed eye and tear duct defect”.
