Worst end to the worst week of my life. (was forum=1)Follow

As the title says i've had a pretty aweful week.

Last week my mother in Law was taken into hospital, nothing too serious just a stomach bug.

On Sunday we where called by the hospital telling us she was moved to ICU after deteriorating rapidly.

On Monday i found out that my opposite number at work has broke his leg and my leave that i booked will have to be cancelled and i will have to take up his workload as well as my own.

On Tuesday i realised just how much work he hasn't doneand that i will be working late for the rest of the week to make up ground.

On Wednesday
On of my best friends in the mess is arrested on false racial allegations, someone in my mess is blatently lying because they don't like him. Then having worked a couple of extra hours (i don't get overtime) i have an answer phone message telling me that my mother is also in hospital and will be for th foreseeable future.

On thursday The hospital are getting increasingly worried about the mother in law as she is not coming out of sedation.

On Friday Having completed a full body CAT scan it revealled that my mother in law has suffered a large stroke centered on her Brain Stem, this is about as bad a place to have it, she still appears to have some reflex responce to stimuli so all is not lost

Today my mother in law suffers large scale brain swelling and is effectively brain dead.

we now have the task of trying to tell her mother, who has now lost 5 of her 6 children before her. She is in a home which is not being particularly co-oprative in terms of visitation and some of the staff members will treat this news with satisfaction.

Someone stop the world, i want to get off.

We can only hope they react with more empathy than they have done in the past.

My heart goes out to you Tarv...find a quiet little spot and let some of the steam off, so you can continue to cope and make the decisions that will be coming at you.

Thanks for all the replies guys, kinda finding it hard to get sleep so i am up late.

My son as always has been the star, he keeps our spirits up even when he's no idea what is going on.

In the end it's a blessing that there was little or no suffering, because she was sedated when the stroke hit.

I am REALLY not looking forward to breaking the news to granny though, we (my wife and i) have plenty of good things in our lives and alot to look forward too, light at the end of the tunnel if you like, but it's hard to comfort a woman who is pushing 80 and has lost all but one of her children.

The legal side of this is going o be very complex aswell as we have already seen a £2,000 bill and have no idea what we will be liable for, or what the will is going to throw up.

The wife is coping as usual, not sure if i could be as strong as she is.

forgive me for waffleing, i feel like that guy in se7en who is just writing random thoughts as they come to me, i should prove interesting reading in a month or so when things are back to reletive normality.

I never had a bad 2 days in a row to be honest... One time I felt pretty bad because this fat guy I know always had me run down to the store and buy him candy, and change the bandages on his feet and what not. Then he died of Diabetes or something....

Tarv, sorry to hear how things are going. Just be there for your wife when it all hits her. I been there and sometimes you try to be strong for all, then the moment everyone else is showing signs of recovering from the lost, fall apart.

Spend time with family talking about the good memories and celebrate how much your mother-in-law enriched your lives.

Best thing we did, when my mom passed away was have a big party in her honor.

Take care and try to get through it as best you can. I'm sorry this had to hit all at once.
As for your own health, one baby aspirin a day (barring any diseases that cause low to no clotting) should help with thinning the blood and reducing the likelihood of a stroke. They are fairly common in my family, and it's one thing we try to do as a preventative measure.

My thoughts are with you, Sailor. I wish I had more.

Do us a favor and see the doc before starting an aspirin regimen. Trust me.

Of course. It's why I said "barring..". If you're a hemophiliac, it's obviously not a good choice. However, if you're basically healthy and one or more relatives have succumbed to either cardiac or brain strokes, it's not bad. Or you could try a glass of red wine.

Not just haemophilia - can play havoc with the gastric system if you've any vulnerabilities (that you may or may not know about).

What Moe said.
