Maybe the detainee had no idea he was about to get out. The opportunity presents itself where a weakness shows, you being treated a little better than the average dog jump in for the attack.

From that light, makes perfect sense to me. I'd try to gnaw their kneecaps off~

So it makes alot of sense, doesn't it, Ambrya, to attack your captors just before you're to be released? Your line of reasoning is faulty to the extreme.

Is there more to this that is not linked? I just don't see in the OP's linked article where is says that the prisoners who did this were being released tomorrow or the next day. This is the only mention of prisoner transfer:
Quote:
Attack coincides with prisoner transfer
The attempted suicides and clash occurred on the same day the military transferred 15 Saudi detainees to their country, leaving about 460 prisoners at Guantanamo. It was unclear if the disturbances were related to the transfers.

The detainees who took part in the clash with guards were moved to higher-security sections.

The medium-security Camp Four, where the clash occurred, houses detainees in dorm-style rooms that hold up to 10 people. Camp Four is for the most compliant prisoners and those who are slated for release.

?????
The article also goes on to say:
Quote:
The lawyer said the suicides reflect the desperation of detainees held for more than four years with no idea when, or if, they will be released.
Of course, this is referenced to all the prisoners committing suicide and not those attacking their abusers.

Still, I question whether the prisoners who did this were being released or "knew" they were being released.
