....and she scheduled an interview for me. Now, it may catch up to me later, but I wasn't here when the previous person held the position (data entry), and they would be a volunteer, so I have no idea of what the basics are, how many hours she would be expected to contribute, doing what, etc.

The volunteer coordinator seemed really angry she couldn't just send her up, but I've only been here 1.5 months and frankly, I'd rather not interview someone I was totally unprepared for on a position I have no knowledge of.

I suppose my boss will be ticked about it, but oh well.

More happenings at work:
I had one of my interpreters run into my office crying yesterday over getting bawled out by a doctor in front of patients. Turns out this guy has a rep, but no one complains about him because he's such a *******. I called him to discuss it and he refused to apologize, told me she deserved it, and hung up on me after I told him he was wrong.

So I wrote his boss a letter detailing events and asking for his advice on how to communicate with him since, obviously, civility was a no-go. I just came back from a meeting with him, and I think I found my new work-idol. Not only is he wonderfully professional and soft-spoken, but even-tempered and an all-around great guy. When I lose it with a staffer, I usually close my office door and beat up my pillow, but this guy looks like he meditates right through it.

I wanna be this guy when I grow up.

Always nice to work with people you admire, and from whom you can learn.

I think that this was exactly the right thing to do. There are alot of (generally stubborn and offensive) people I have found to only respond well to a direct authority. They strike out against everyone on their own level, but humble themselves wonderfully before any percieved authority.

It's very odd how they will show actual respect to the 'right' person while treating you like dirt. Almost like they never got over the "Mom says you have to give me all your toys now, or you get the spoon" stage of being a child.

When you need something done, it's good to have the right buttons to push.

You know, I didn't mean for it to go south like it did, but he understood not only the basic problem, but all the underlying reasons. He was upset that no one had complained before this since it seemed to be an ongoing issue, and I told him that culturally speaking, it seemed to be an issue with the women on my staff just being intimidated by what they felt was the other physician's power. He didn't dismiss it, but he thought about it and processed it. He also anticipated their fear of reprisal and is taking steps to minimize any backlash.

Whatta guy.

Hah! This one's not my boss. He's the head of Pediatric Medicine at my hospital. My boss is the kind to say she spoke to him when she really didn't just to make it look like she did something.

Well then, your boss sounds a lot like mine. Only mine is male, so it's even worse.
