I saw a thread for hockey up and I figured I'd see if anyone has been paying attention to the NBA playoffs and the NBA season in general. I'm pulling for New Jersey to win their series and at least give Detroit some hell in the Eastern Conference Finals, maybe even beat em'. In the West I'm really wanting it to come down to Dallas and Phoenix with a Dallas win. Upset at how the Houston Rockets couldn't get over injuries and kept getting screwed over though. Better luck next year and with an 8th pick in the draft they'll get something nice for a team that just needs to stay healthy to really be a major presence in the West.

Oh, and there might be one or two people around that vaguely remember my name, I was on the forums back when it was the UBB boards.

Kinda dropped from EQ and wound up getting caught up in college crap, but it's all winding down so I figured why not. How's everything been?

By the way 104 to 103 Dallas tonight, f*ck yeah!

I just finished watching Spurs/Mavs game 3, and I'm pretty fuc[Aqua][/Aqua]king pissed about it. That was some of the worst officiating I've seen in an NBA game. They gave Nowitski what, 57 foul shots? 145? Ridiculous. In the playoffs this year, you can't look cross-eyed at a star player without getting slapped with a foul.

The refs stole a hard-fought game away from the Spurs with their ********* Goddamn that pisses me off. Argh...!

(sorry for the rant)

While I had not thought you had died, I had forgotten you existed. Pretty much the same thing.

I loved the Mavs game. I think the officiating was good through the whole thing, and the play-offs in general has been good. The refs have been way to edgy though with all the suspensions and technicals getting whistled up, but just look at some of the players who've gotten fines and suspensions, some big name players. Artest, Posey, Nowitzki, Shaq, Mark Cuban, etc... so it is getting hit all across the boards. Plus in the Miami/New Jersey match up Shaq got quite a few charging whistles. I will admit in the Mavs game there were some bad calls (I didn't get to watch it in its entirety, my room-mate was too busy contemplating suicide whilst watching the Senators/Sabres game, congrats Buffalo) I found that last foul on Duncan to put him out of the game was a bit of a problem as it was Parker that fouled Nowitzki. But that aknle sprain looked like a *****, hopefully he's fine for game 4.

Taco - Didn't forget enough, something rung a bell.

Well, those are suspensions and fines, not foul calls. And the only player out of those who is a surprise is Nowitzki. Those others are pretty expected as far as those go. And with Shaq getting charging calls, well he's the toughest guy to officiate in the league.

I'm a bit biased of course (I'm a HUGE spurs fan) but there was absolutely no reason why Nowitski should have gotten to the line 24 times in that game. Though I did think that the refs called too many fouls for the Spurs, as well.

I just hate it whenever the refs seem to make a conscious decision to change the flow of the game. Good officiating should be very hard to notice. But for long periods in that game, there was a ticky-tack foul called every single time down the court for both teams, and that's bs.

True enough. I guess I would have been more likely to do a complete wipe had your posting name been "Steve."

I hope the Spurs pull it out.

Who, Nash? I think Bill Simmons put it best when he said that the best case for Nash as an MVP was that he wrote that "You're Beautiful" song.

That about sums that up.

Besides, two hockey threads is quite enough.

OP: Why do you naturally assume that the Detroit Pistons are going to be around in the Easter Conference Finals for your Nets to give hell??? Dunno if you have been watching but the Cav's have been playing them quite well, series is 2-2.

I honestly think the Cavs have a shot to pull this out. It been a pretty defensive series lately, and the Cavs are showing that they can play that style ball.

I see enough commercials and print ads during my days that I don't need to watch a 3 hour ad campaign circle jerk that is Basketball. FUck Basketball, right in the ear.

As opposed to any other major professional sport?

Football is an onslaught of marketing, Nascar drivers are walking billboards, etc.

I hate Nascar I think more then I do basketball. Half the fan base will buy anything you show them as long as its their driver, I don't blame the companies for billboarding up the cars. Its an easy sell as is basketball. IMHO Basketball marketing is more rampant then Football. Urban youths seem to be more susceptible to advertising then fat guys on couches.

Go Mavs! 123 118 win in overtime over the Spurs. It is the year of the Mavericks in the NBA. As far as Cleveland and Detroit, when Cleveland wins one in the Palace, I'll buy em', until then, Detroit is taking the East. Miami is gonna slow down, but I guess I'll say Miami will finish the Nets soon. Kinda sad considering the Nets had a great season. I give the Clippers the edge in their series against Phoenix, the two big men and the limiting defense does alot for them.

As far as the marketing thing, the NBA doesn't really market to urban teens. The new dress code outlines are all suit attire and such and the use of rap (Remember the Name by Fort Minor) that's just a catchy freakin' tune. Just because by in large urban teens tend to wear jerseys and such is a misnomer, anyone can buy them, they don't have jersey ads on TV for ghetto-fab inner city youth. I'm from the country and I love NBA basketball, they didn't really market to me.

Nascar is a billboard on wheels, I will agree there. I see far more football advertisements on TV already than anything else the anticipated Monday Night Football on ESPN is just plain ********* congratulations, you got another hot sports show signed to your network, no one cares, there's other sports going on right now, let's get going.

The Bulls are making strong pushes though making the playoffs the past two years has done alot for them. Ben Gordon is definately something to hold onto, Kirk Heinrich is arguably one of the best point guards in the league, Nocioni really came out of his shell in the play-offs, and if Tyson Chandler bulks up some, or even just improves his speed and handling a bit, he'll be amazing.

So there is hope.

I hope to hell you're right. Of course, I'm still holding on to hope that the Bears' improvements will continue. Meanwhile, my Patriots-fanboy friend is still crowing.
