This is so "it could have happened to anyone" that it's very disturbing. I can't imagine being that child's mother.

The boy was found in the eight-foot hole in four to five feet of septic water, police said.
The toddler was immediately removed and CPR was performed on the scene, but to no avail.
Ewww...
My septic cap is buried abd safe from children. In fact, I need to go out there with a copper pipe and try to find it as I need to get that thing emptied.
I lost a hamster to that sump pump or whatever the hell it's called.
A sump pump is to drain basements; it has little or nothing to do with a septic tank.

Ok.. Why can a 3 year old have access to a septic tank... I mean, come on. The only way anyone should be able to go in a septic tank is to be flushed down the toilet. I hope that kids parents get criminally charge for negligence.
I didn't actually read the article, but you say the lid flipped? Where in the hell is there a place with above ground septics? In my experience they should and usually are be approx 3 feet underground. Knowing this I take back my accusation of charges. Though I am pretty sure they should get that fixed...

Most of Africa has a U5MR of over 150 per 1000. Meaning 15% of all live births die before the age of 5. This doesn't even count all the infants that die at birth.
