Who here owns their own buisness? Mr.Katie has had it in his head for several years now that he wants to open a rock gym. Unfortunantly he wants me to learn the management part and run it for him. So I'm curious. How many of you actually have your own buisness?

I am self employed but then I have no store front, no employees and (almost) no overhead to speak of.

But, I'd expect you to give your man-gina up for free, so you wouldn't be a gigalo per se.

I do. Lots of paperwork and stress, insurance and all that. But in the end you being your own boss is more than worth it

Why? Just curious what you feel the rewards are, not trying to argue.

I have insurance, very little paperwork (besides the stuff actually associated with my task), not much stress and a good deal of flexibility in my scheduling when things pop up. I know I can walk in every day at 8-8:30am and kick out the door at 4:30. Low muss, little fuss.

Is it simply intrinsic rewards such as the whole feel-good glow and pride and that sort of thing or are there extrinstic rewards you reap that you don't think you'd get as an employee?

In a previous life I owned and operated a smallish tree-trimming and landscaping company. The biggest joy I took in being my own boss was arbitrarily firing folks because they were deemed insolent or I was hungover. Sort of like being Smoggy.

Nope. I've always played with the idea of opening an internet cafe but the prospects suck around this area. If I ever do it, it will be in a larger town. Mr.Katie keeps telling me that we should buy a building and have it divided off, 2/3 his rock gym and 1/3 my cafe. All good, except he wants me to run his gym while he finishes his 10 enlisted 20 civilian. I know nothing about rock climbing.
