So this morning I'm working on our website and I'm kicked back with the keyboard in my lap relaxing.

The wife walks by and notices that not only am I in my normal playing position but I have my left hand on the WAD keys. (Forward, Left, Right movements in WoW)

Wow, perhaps I play too much...

The title of this thread is an understatement and has nothing to do with the content. I think you keep your fingers on "WAD" because it makes you think of "DI[Aliceblue][/Aliceblue]CK" and that makes you feel funny in the pants.

i play with ASDF, 4 fingers. I'm not comfortable with 3 fingers with one of them moving up and down.

i find that left-hand control interesting though. prior to playing these games, my left hand didn't seem to have the coordination needed to control movement. now, it's just as natural as using mouse and keyboard.

I like 8426 on the numeric pad, 3 fingers.

Arrow keys?? WTF is that all about? No mouse?

I use ESDF...essentially it's WASD shifted over one key to allow for more hotkeys on the left.

Don't post here often, but I agree here. Old EQ days of up down left and right, sticks in your mind.

Arrows with the left, mouse with the right.

Back when I was playing EQ with the bard, it was right hand on the arrows and left on the number row for song twisting. WASD wouldn't have been an option unless I wanted to twist via mouse (um... no) or have my hands on top of one another. I think that's what got me used to using the arrows.

Being left-handed, it's easier for me to use the mouse and arrow keys. Number keypad keys usually get commandeered for other duties.

Arrows rule, but even for my old bard twisting and WoWing I use left hand for arrows and right hand for numbers across the top of the keyboard, crossed right at the wrists. It seems counter-intuitive, but for some reason it's always worked well for me.

I've fallen asleep in this position ohhhh say 15 or so times, though it's prolly more since I move when I sleep

though I rarely use asd at all since I always strafe to run away....though sometimes I turn while I'm popping off LHW or bandaging myself

Same here.

My left hand always rests on the AWD keys.

When im not near a keyboard i'm pretty sure my hand is still in the same position.

Funny you mention it since i just realized this on friday.

The "A,S,D,E,C,V,Ctrl,L" and "." keys on both my work and home systems have worn down to the point that they actually have holes forming in the plastic. Considering the keyboards are only 2-3 years old, either I have extremely acidic finger tip sweat or I spend far too much time typing. I blame you all for a good portion of that typing.

I don't have the coordination to use anything but the arrow keys >.<

The last time I tried to play WASD style, it ended with me banging my fist into the keyboard..

I loved Eq in first person view with the page up/page down (numeric keypad numbers 9 and 3) to pan up and down. However, a left handed system leaves my right hand free to go over to the mouse - which I prefer to totally avoid in MMORPGs since one of the principle things to do is communicate with others - and that means typing.

I found a heck of a lot less typing going on in WoW then Eq. I really doubt the interface had much to do with it. It is simply a very different game style. Less communication is needed. It is attractive to a different crowd.

Yeah. EQ controls were always a bit "different. I'd typically put my left hand on the arrow keys and right on the mouse. But if I needed to use the number keys, I'd shift my left to the numbers and the right to the arrow keys. It got to be pretty natural over time.

CoH took a bit of getting used to, with the WADS configuration. Honestly, it might be easier rekeying them to the arrow keys (since I tend to use mouse+key for strafing and such anyway), but I haven't bothered. CoH isn't quite as strict about button timing as EQ though, so it's not as bad to use the mouse to click on stuff. Also doesn't seem to get mouselag like EQ does...
