If I was refuting the antisocial aspect of MMORPGs, I wouldn't do it with a game where half the player base speaks another lanuage and you have to use macros to say "Kill Mob" and "Need Heal" to them.

No, you're wrong there, dippy. you write your own macros to say wahtever you want them to say..

Did I say they were all pre-set? Nope. But obviously you're pre-creating them which means your speech is limited to a certain path. Or you're using the stock phrases via the translator.

About as unheard of as tourists wandering the streets of Paris, armed with a French-English dictionary, a Casio Electronic Translator and a hazy recollection of freshmen Intro French. In other words, nothing that hasn't been going on for ages anyway. Hell, you can sit on IRC in #Spain with Bablefish open in another window and get a more dynamic conversation going than you'll get on FFXI if you're thirsting for some multilingual conversation from your bedroom.

Ok, fine. You can join a French speaking guild on EQ, armed with a French-English dictionary if it blows your dress up and they want to put up with your halting, awkward speech. WTF is the difference? So again, no, there's nothing special and wonderful about being able to say "I'm farming sheep hides, go away n00b" to some guy in Japanese on FFXI.

Communication, thus socialization, is easier when you're surrounded by people you don't have to use a translator to speak to. The more hoops you have to jump through to communicate something, the less likely people are to do it.
