Racism exists, it exists from both sides of the coin or in all spectrums of skin pigmentation.

I hope the implication of that statement isn't that Rasicsm effected Colin Powel and George Bush equally.

Black kids are at a disadvantage in America compared to white kids. Contrary to the wailing of the poor white guy who doesn't get to be a firefighter because a black guy was eligible.

Nope never said that. White vs Black racism is more prevelant and noticeable in American Society. I'm all for equality in job selection for everyone and realize that for that equality to eventually be achieved that there is a need for some Affirmative Action. However, there will be a time or it has already arrived that race does not have to be as large a factor in hiring and enrollment.

We can never completely eradicate racism, though it is a noble thought, what we have to do is educate as many people as possible that hate based on skin color, sex, religion and sexual preference is not acceptable. The hardest thing to do though is to change a culture overnight or even over a few decades, especially after centuries of accepted behavior.

What I fail to understand though is someone as intelligent as yourself can spout such hatred toward whites, christians and other people that do not agree with you, yet you are the first to pull out the race card. Care to explain this to me please?

As the board's sole and lonely black man, I am here to say that racism is dead in America.

There! It is officially over.

In fact, not only as the board's only black man, I am also the board's solitary African American-Dutchman, thus entitling me to proclaim an end to affirmative action. So, Smash, it's time to turn those swords into plowshares, hold hands with your Republican brothers and sing "When We Gather at the River."

I'm free, free, free at last!

I don'y hate whites, or christians or even people who don't agree with me. I hate ignorance. Also, I very rarely hate people, I hate ideas. For instance, the idea that a balck kid has the same chance to be President as a white kid in this country is an ignorant one and I hate the fact that some people will choose to put it forward.

Simmilarly I think the idea that there is anything but imagination behind the story of Christer Bunny and freinds is an ignorant one.

So on and so on.

If you read me carefully you'd know that I really have virtually no problem with people who have taken the effort to seriously consider a position and examine all the evidence and come to a conclusion about what they believe. If you tell me you believe in Christ because of what is written in the Bible fits in well with your ethical system and that it's unimportant to you if he ever existed or not I'll say "Good show."

When you tell me I'm going to hell because I don't accept the factual evidence that he existed I'll tell you to go fuck yourself. I'm nothing if not consistent in my war against ignorance.

Reading the news story, I got the impression that it really wasn't the defendant who came up with the idea of using post traumatic slave syndrome as a defense. I got the definate feeling someone wants to boost their academic career by trying to get a new diagnosis published in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

"A Los Angeles native, DeGruy-Leary has been working on the theory for two decades and said she is still a year from publishing a book on it."

If they can use this diagnosis as part of (or the basis for) his defense, she still has time to add a whole section to the book. Based on a true story!

So you do not believe that Colin Powell can become President? I am one that would vote for him. So I believe a black child does have a chance, the opportunity for a black child to do is just opening up now or in the next decade. After Hillary or Elizabeth in 2008.

This is an understandable statement, and an appropriate response for someone that does not believe. It is faith, the factual evidence helps build that faith.

It is the ease at which you pull out the "Race Card" though that really distracts from your arguements. The immediate aggression that you push on someones ignorance is what makes me at least tune out what you are really saying. How can someone tell if have virtually no problem if the first words out of your keyboard is that the ignorant person is a "racist". So actually it is difficult to read you carefully, when you let your arrogance over shadow the opposing sides ignorance.

I don't know why I'm replying in this manner, but truly you can make a better arguement by being less confrontational and understand that the opposing view truly is founded on ignorance, based on their inability or unwillingness to learn for themselves.

Ok I'm off the soap box. Keep up the good fight on ignorance, cause I understand that fight all too well.

It'd be much less entertaining if I just made calm rational arugments. People who are capable of changing their minds rarely fall into the group of people I attack, so I see little to be gained by being polite to them.

I don't think Powell would get through the Republican primaries. According to runor, when he was pondering a run a while back, it was communicated to him in no uncertain terms that he would be the subject of abject character assasination by his own party. His wife Alma's past was placed on the table as was his military record in Vietnam.

In '96 when he was pondering a run he recieved so much hate mail that his wife was terrified of him running, finally saying "A black man running for president is going to be in a dangerous position." Implying that the risk of assasination even before getting to the election was immense.

So, no, I absolutely don't think he could be president. Which is unfortunate for our nation. He'll make a hell of a Secratery of Defense for Kerry though, when McCain turns the job down.

Unfortunately that risk of assasination is very real, because I believe Powell would do a good job, if he was President during 9/11 we would not be in Iraq today and Afghanistan would be nearing completion of being rebuilt, though I believe Osama would still be at large. But hey, I'm just a dumb grunt, what do I know.

Agree 100%.

We would likely have handled N Korea better as well and probably put an end to the hundreds of terrorist schools in Yemen and the Sudan which to my knowledge are currently happily churning out suicide bombers.

Not that I've bothered to post about it much, but I still find it stunning how we've simply ignored Africa during the War on Terror when so much happens there that it's of huge relevance to the middle east and defending the US.

Ugh, Africa scares the crap out of me. I read an article a while back about how Africa should be a top concern for terrorism because so many have AIDS that there are thousands of people there that have nothing to lose by suicide bombing.

Tell ya what. I never even thought about race hell i even dated a Black Women in college, for about a year. Until i started working a phone company. I have never in all my life tried to do some of these stupid things or even thought about it for that matter. To give u an idea of experience so u understand the pool i am getting this data from. I have been here for 5 years i take on avg 60 calls a day. So 60*5(days a week)= 300 * 4(weeks a month) = 1200 * 12(months a year) = 14,400 * 5(years of service) = 72,000 calls. Now lets minus off 12,000 calls for vacation, holidays, what have ya. 72,000-12,000= 60,000. This is just one example of black people's judgement of right.

They call up for new service we do a credit check to verify ID, Final Bills, Date of Birth things like that everyone gets one. So instead of giving me there info which has a Final Bill on it they give there babies info who is not 18 just so they can run those bills up and give that poor child bad credit before it even knows what credit is. When u tell them they have to send ID's in to verify the information because none of the Credit Beaur's have any records for them they get all pissy. When u ask them if they have court documents showing they are an Amancipated Minor they say "huh". I tell them they can put it in there name and they will say no i have a bill and hang up. Why would u wanna start off your child with bad credit. That has nothing to do with ppl who were long dead b4 u were ever born. So u can't blame that.

Also this is mostly black women why o why do you always get more than u can afford. I think black women have a compentiton to see who can get the highest bill's.

Anyway just my 2 cents

That's great Smash. That's my justification as well, and the big ol' booty. BTW dude I think in one of your posts when you first mentioned bush and powell, you used "effected" incorrectly. I always thought it was "affected".

Two diffrent words. I might have used it incorrectly, though, it's hard to tell without the quote.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=affect

Usage Note: Affect and effect have no senses in common. As a verb affect is most commonly used in the sense of “to influence” (how smoking affects health). Effect means “to bring about or execute”: layoffs designed to effect savings. Thus the sentence These measures may affect savings could imply that the measures may reduce savings that have already been realized, whereas These measures may effect savings implies that the measures will cause new savings to come about.
