by the way im white, but have a large number of black's in my family(originally from miss.) and despite that i still am what some ppl would call "racist" in some cases. sure i dont generalize, but a brother or *****(a friend) is totally different from a ******(a lazy *** person of any color). most black ppl dont care bout the conf. flag, but a few do and a lot of extremely PC whites that have some sort of twisted empathy as to what it's like to be descriminated against care bout it

but back to the subject the flag(sticker?) will prolly be taken away, but u should get the board back. this should have been taken just to nip any problems in the butt, but not kept, u definatetly should get it back.

and i retract my statement to kao earlier, i realized what i was doing the other day when he told me to stop spam posting, sorry bout that dreadlord, i'll try to make sure that it never happens again

Personally I see no use in the Confederate flag. However living in northern Maryland, and Southern Pennsylvania there are alot of people who fly it proudly. Not because they support the ideals of the Confederate States, but because, to them, the flag represents a "rebel cause".

However I tend to agree with previously posters in that we live in a "politically correct" society.(At least we pretend to.) And this flag means something completely different to some people.

My advive would be to let it go. You'll probably never see your flag again, but its not worth getting upset about. Someday you'll be back in Texas and you won't have this problem anymore.

Urkle?

Yeah, he was responsible for a lot of racism, if I recall.

Pfftt.. hell no. Don't get me wrong, I like Illinois and all and it certainly beats living in, say, Indiana (state motto: "Just to the right of Illinois") but I wouldn't die for the state of Illinois, per se. Maybe for America, but not on a state level.

So does the flag of the United States of America. Why choose one that elicits memories of slavery, the kkk and lynchings in so many peoples' minds?

You missed the point of my post. To these people it represents none of those things.

Just to clear things up. On most skimboards there is a painted design on one side of them...usually the top. It has a clear coat over the painting of the flag, so it and the flag...are as one.

But people keep talking about the Confederate flag representing slavery, but if you look at history, the US flag was just as involved in slavery as the Confederate flag. And rebellion...hello why do you think this country was founded! I could post facts if need be. Also with reference to the KKK using it as a symbol...they also use Christianity. So does that mean that my bible and my God will become offensive and force me to hide that as well? This might be an extreme example but I think it fits.

Whose we? You got mice in your pockets? Kaolian is tolerated because he is helpful, he's like the class room geek that all the jocks go to when they need their homework done.

And he has good recipes. Perhaps if he drank coffee, he'd be more likeable.

Are you living under a rock? Our God and Bible is offensive to some people, just read this message board or the headlines.

Well being offensive is differnt then taking it out of my room and not allowing me to have it.

And that is not true. I know a person in my barracks that has lots of pentagrams in his room as well as statues and a sort of "shrine" with pentagrams and whatnot.

No, I didn't miss the point of your post.

Is everyone walking past a house displaying a confederate flag supposed to know exactly what's in the hearts and minds of each individual displaying it? It's a ridiculous position to take and disingenuous in the extreme to pretend not to understand the negative reaction the symbol elicits in many.

If you want to blame the KKK for tainting the confederate flag in the minds of so many people, fine. Perhaps they did. The damage, however, has been done.

The point is, regardless of what's in the inner mind of any individual displaying a confederate flag, they are well aware that it means something very ugly to a large portion of our population.

That's interesting. They say nothing to the 'pagan' and dis on the 'Southerner'. Interesting social commentary indeed.

I disagree with you. If you asked these people, I bet 90% would tell you they have no idea where the hell this flag came from or the what the conflict was that surrounded it. You have to know the area. They aren't the brightest of people.
