Please tell me you're just pretending to be this dense Smash. There is a world of difference between what is required of a reservist at reserve status, and one that is at active status.

When at reserve status, you serve one weekend a month, and 2 weeks a year. When those dril times are is very flexible. Not reporting at a specific is an administrative issue at worst. No bigger of a deal then not making a dental appointment. You reschedule you time and you go on. It happens all the time. People at reserve status do not make a living off their pay. They have to hold jobs, make rent, and all the other stuff people have to do. It's accepted that their civilian lives will impact their scheduled reserve duty times.

Once ativated for full time duty, they are a soldier 24/7, and fall under the same restrictions as one. Not showing up for duty at that point is a big deal.

The two situations are not even remotely similar.
