If you had to choose Between Family/JobFollow

#1 May 06 2004 at 4:32 PM Rating: Default
If you had to choose between your family or your job which would you choose?

Today I get a Call form my older brother. He tells me that my father is in the hospital,Dieing of internal bleeding. My father is 72 years old. I start freaking out because I want to go to the hospital and visit my father before he die's.

So I call my Boss to tell him I need the day off because my father is in the Hospital!!! Boss tells me NO That he can't allow that. He needs me to come to work, and that no one can cover for me. I damn near lost it right there. I could not believe that asshate just told me NO. He probley thinks I am makeing it up or some sh*t

You want to know the reason why he said no? Cause he is not willing to pay anyone over time to cover for anyone shift this month.

Anyways I was so pissed that I hang up on my boss before I told him F*ck off and go striat to hell.

I get anohter call from my older sister she tells me that my dad is Ok and that he is not dieing just yet. The hospital people say he is going to be OK.

So I call back my boss tell him what is going on and if there is an emergence and my father is near death that I am not going to think twice about it I will up and quit this damn job.

I still can't believe that that Cold harted Hartless rat ******* said that to me. He basicly was telling me my job was more important then my family. WTF I can replace any dumb *** job at anytime. But I can not replace my father. What an *** GOD I hate My Boss. ***! and yes I am at work right now.=( waiting for my family to call me and tell me how my father is doing.

Go to the hospital, and if you get fired sue for wrongful termination. **** the job man, you can get another one but if your father is gonna die, go be with him.

Quit and brun the place down. That's what I'd do. In all situations in life anytime you have these questions again, just think "WWSD?" What Would Smasharoo Do?

Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Warf hit the nail on the head. Your father is immediate family, which is covered by the FMLA. Your boss has no right to deny you that.

Unless you're one of the millions of workers it wouldn't apply to.

Family first. if they are that much of a jackass about it, you don't want to be working there anyways. I know it sounds easy for me to say, my livelyhood isn't on the line, but really if they case you to miss something that important, you will become bitter and grow to lothe your job

One's father is immediate family, and thus covered by the act.

I just wet myself (and not in the happy way) at the thought of following this advice! Cut that out, Smash! Smiley: lol

When I originally read the title I said to Myself: "self, there's really no choice there. Family always wins." Then I read the post and felt for you. My boss would probably do the same thing. At which point I'd kindly explain where they could place the aforementioned job in relation to the interior of their posterior. But that's another day for another story.

Always, always choose family over work, friends, etc.

Another thing:

The hospital people say he is going to be OK.

Now I'm not sure how your hospital system operates but hopefully for your dad they are doctors and nurses.

Congrats on your Dad being ok.

It'll walk you through whether or not you're covered by the Act starting here. Smash is right, it doesn't always apply.

I think you approached it the wrong way.

What you should have done is gone to the hospital then phoned your boss telling him <Not asking> that you wouldn't be in due to a family emergancy.

"Quit and brun the place down." --Smasharoo

May I suggest you first choose a color other than brun, perhaps like a mauve or teal and then quit. At lest then they'd have to repaint the joint.

Call the boss, tell him you are going to the hospital, and then go. If he can't cover for you missing a day, or won't, odds are all he is going to do is ***** at you anyway. Then you nod and smile and think ********** you" and go on about your business.
