Here's a hint for you:

READ A BOOK.

No offense, trunksie, but a 16 year old kid has no business being bored. Open a book and read, for christ's sake. I mean, it's not like anyone here would accuse you of having completed life's quest for knowledge and understanding. Pick up a dictionary and look through it for words that make you laugh, if nothing else. Read Conrad and figure what the great white hunter is in the book for. Memorize If. Pick up Ginsberg and check out Howl, or read Naked Lunch and see if you are any more adept at picking apart the brain of Burroughs that anyone else could possibly be. But don't come here pissing and moaning about us not providing you with entertainment.

I find mastubating in the library while humming "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as loudly as you can relieves boredom.

Alternately go as the librarian for blueprints of the school and any boks shr might have on tactical shooting or bomb making.

Personally, I find that difficult to believe. I used to read 5 or 6 books a week when I was in high school, and there is a ton that I never got around to picking up before graduation. Have you read the entire collection of stories that comprize the Duluoz legend? I haven't even made it through that task yet. But I would bet The Dharma Bums and Big Sur have escaped your perusal. Have you gotten in to Leaves of Grass yet? These are American classics. As I mentioned earlier, have you read Howl yet?

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,..."

Go back a little further. Have you read Plato? Milton? Flaubert? Tennessee Williams, for christ's sake?

Jack London, Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft all spring to mind as good candidates. I'll bet your library has those authors.

hey, about the tornadoes, one touched down about 40 miles south of me, and some people at my school didnt even know there was a tornado last night........
(which brings up the question of what would they think if their roof suddenly flew off)

just a thought.

probably something along the lines of "oh ****, our roof just flew off?" But I could just be guessing there.

Finding a good book to read is hard for some people (like me). I usually need a nudge in the right direction as far as books go. Once I find an author I like things go smoothly, but there's so many books, and so few good books.

You know, the librarians would probably be tickled pink to offer suggestions. Just tell him or her the type of reading you enjoy.

Or jot down some of the suggestions from this thread. Smiley: smile

I don't know, when I went to high school I used to make lots and lots of free periods.
Of course, I did so in order to make time so I could go smoke a big fatty, not read books or post on forums, but to each his own.

Something tells me I should have gone to english more often though. Next time!
