I work nightshift in a Hospital ER... most of the time I get to see the sadder/nastier side of life and people.
We get a lot of average, normal sick people threw our doors and we also get a lot of drunks, drug users and the like, who most times are not very pleaseant to deal with.
After 13 years of working in the Hospital environment and 2 years in the ER, I've become indifferent towards the way I treat people.
If you're nice to me, I will be nice back to you and go out of my way to help you and make your stay in the ER as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
If you're rude, violent, abusive and the like, then I'll do my job, but I'll do the lest I have to and don't expect any sympathy from me.

Anyway, after all that rambling, most nights are busy and all we get to see is sick people. It runs you down after a while.

Well I had an excellent night at work, lastnight. Got to help deliver a baby (my first)... was a little boy. Little fella just wasn't going to wait till he got upto the Birthing Suites and the woman almost had him in the ER waiting room. Parents called him Benjamin. I left the trauma room grinning like a fool and so did the other staff involved. Everyone had a little lift in their step, for the rest of the shift.

With all the **** that can and does go on in the ER and the horrible things we have to deal with from time to time, it's the rare nice things, like the baby, that reminds me why I like my job.

I love birthings, Christmas, and weddings. Perfect crystallized hope.
