In short.. a woman killed 2 of her sons and almost the third with a rock. Apparently God told her to.

Thought of a few questions..wanted to hear some opinions.

1.) Is this woman a terrorist? God told them to kill people too.

2.) Who does an insane atheist say told them to do it?

(1) No. A terrorist is someone trying to enact some form of social or political change by threatening violence upon people. This woman doesn't match the description at all.

(2) Beats me. Burl Ives?

An insane atheist? Well, I would say insanity rests comfortably in the lap in the "sane" religious zealot of this case, wouldn't you? Atheists have a wider selections of entities to blame their actions on. Dogs, microwaves, radios...you name it!

Where you get the terrorist connection, I have no idea. She's a little too white, suburban mama to be a terrorist.

Edit: because spelling and grammar are important, people.

So you're saying it's not the voice of Burl Ives in my head, telling me to kill?

That's a relief!

when i was about 19 there was a lady in a trailer park on the other side of the tracks that tied her daughter to a bed and starved her to death. said she was demon possessed and the only way she could get them out was to starve her.

but all that seems like nothing compared to things nowadays. legally insane is a copout. everyone needs to be accountable for what they do...crazy or not. just my $0.02

I saw a funny comic where some religious zealot was at the gates of Heaven with a sign that said "God is on our side!" Saint Peter looked him in the eyes and said "What part of 'thou shalt not kill' did you not understand?"

People do things in the name of God, especially kill, but the funny thing is that God specifically said NOT to do these things. Usually it's just a government using religion to control the people. In the case of this woman, she's sick and needs help, but she certainly shouldn't be free.

Why is that I'm not shocked to learn you grew up near a trailer park.

Part of the horror (or the beauty) of psychosis is that it nixes all thought of morality, so it's like telling a two-year old that they aren't being logical. The mind can't grasp it. Does this mean it's okay to kill if your pigeons don't all nest under the same roof? Of course not.

The problem with gods is that they are usually 'do as I say, not as I do' kinds of folks that routinely slaughter anyone that displeases them. This makes it very easy for their followers to justify their own slaugterings.

Sure I could have. Considering that I was responding to the genius whose rapier like wit gifted us all with "****" I didn't feel much effort was waranted in the retort. A measured response, that's my motto.

iono...you're (that's for you skeeter) the one who seems to put together gems that look like my high school physics papers. (those papers sucked by the way..most of it was copied and pasted from groliers the night before the paper was due)

then you follow it up with a nice hard-hitting insult so maybe people won't take too much time to realize what you wrote before. whatever works for ya sport.

It seems nowadays you can get away with anything. If you get into trouble simply plead insanity or better yet blame society for making them do it.

Personally, I think they need to lock this lady up and lose the key. People need to be held accountable for what they do.

Being from the wrong side of the Tracks originates from living on the downwind side of the RR station. The soot, cinders and grime from the steam engines would land on the houses and clothing of folks living downwind. Consequently they and their clothes were dirty with a few smudge marks or burns.
It is also interesting to note that in some of the Kansas towns of the 1870's (ie Dodge and Hays City) the brothels and saloons were on one side of the track, with the stores, churhes and homes of the middle class on the other.

This little lesson has been brought to you by the staff of President St. Station. The oldest surviving big city RR staion in the US.

Woman is not a terrorist. In all likelihood she is schizophrenic. A classic symptom of schizophrenia is hearing voices in your head, and sometimes even having imaginary people be a part of your life. For an idea of what this is like, I'd suggest seeing the Russell Crowe movie "A Beautiful Mind". For some people, the voices in their head is described as "aliens speaking to me". For someone with a somewhat misguided religious fervor, the voice of shizophrenia in their head is often described as "God speaking to me". Whether its God or Aliens that schizophrenics believe are speaking to them, it's a tragic but not unheard of occurrence for the "voice" to tell them to kill people. If the woman in this case is schizophrenic, she should be confined. But I believe the confinement should be in a mental health facility. This will probably start a whole new debate, so I'll stop that train of thought.

But to answer your questions more directly:

1) She's not a terrorist. More likely she's a schizophrenic. For terrorists, it is not actually god who tells them to kill people. It is a charismatic, manipulative leader who has decided to use religious faith as a means of political/mind control to coerce others into acts of violence in order to achieve the leaders own personal agenda. Yes, Osama Bin Laden is a clasic example of this.

2) As my initial answer says, it can be aliens who tell an insane atheist to do it. Could also be anything from imaginary friends, huge mega-corporations (i.e. Microsoft), or the government that "tells" people to do it. There is a wide variety of ways that schizophrenics have described the "voices" in their head.

I would imagine that most cities and towns in the US have a trailer park somewhere - not just the scuzzy, low-class shithole cliches, but some are almost decent middle-class - so that anyone, anywhere, is probably relatively close to a trailer park. Unless you're either in the completely barren wastelands of the Dakotas, or the middle of downtown LA.
