Two comments regarding CNN and other news agencies.
1. Their quality has gone down to almost nothing in the last ten years. This is the age of the sound bite and of things taken out of context. What we did NOT see in this article was the events leading up to their shooting the guy. What we also did not see is the marine in question facing a board of review for war crimes. The man on the ground was a combatant, and if he went for a weapon, then the marine was within his ROE. If not, he will face court martial.
2. News agencies are not even remotely objective. That clip may be (probably is) cut together from unrelated incidents. That marine may have been talking about blowing up captured ammo.
To understand the laughter, you have to be there for the events leading up to the climax that you saw. Ask a psychologist why a soldier would laugh when they saw another human being die. Just don't forget that that other human being just had a weapon pointed at you and/or your friends heads and was trying with every fiber of his being to shoot you before you shot him. Don't forget the effects of massive amounts of adrenaline in the bloodstream. And don't forget that this particular enemy places a wholly different value on human life, his own and yours. And that his views of surrender and rules of engagement and the rules of war are completely and totally foreign to you, to the point where you probably cannot even empathize.
The proper villain here is the reporter who allowed his footage to be cut down so that all context is removed.

Well - on that occassion - as a European I have to say about you Americans:
Your music makes me dance
Your comedians make me laugh
Your movies make me watch
Your food makes me addicted
Your games make me play all weekend
but your arrogance, your ignorance, and your selfishness make me wish at least once each day the American Indians had succeded in driving us Europeans off their continent before we became what you are nowadays......
...flame me as you want, cant make me more angry than what I see on CNN each day....
Oh, and for you European anti-Americans, your countries lack some things too. The drivers here have no concern for safety. Your people need to bathe before attending close quarters events (e.g. movie premier), oh and brushing of teeth would help too. Learn to wait in line patiently. Learn to provide service with alacrity and accuracy.
Arrogance - I think the French or Italians win this one.
Ignorance - Belgians.
Selfishness - people are selfish everywhere it seems.
Laziness, disorderliness, and a total lack of caring for others. These are the top traits I've seen in three years in Western Europe.
