by the way, in case anyone was wondering, the person getting shot had just gotten done trying his best to shoot some of our troops. Sure, maybe they were a bit overzelous, but quite frankly, they sort of had it coming at that point. Yes, I may not be a democrat and perhaps therefore slightly biased, but anyone in any party that posts out of context clips like that in an attempt to sway public oppinion should be shot. Yes. Anyone. In any party. yeah, him too.

Psh, you link a video of some marines getting a kick out of shooting an Iraqi (supposedly) and you get a slew of response. I bash brits and I get one retort (thanks Flea!).

Man, this just isn't my day. -=(

First, you can't believe the video
Second, there's nothing like killing the F*cktard that's trying to kill you.
Third, I love when European nations claim that the US is arrogant. As much as you try to hide,"your hands " are stained with blood too.And when it because prudent to England or any other nation to act in it's self intrest don't fool yourself into believing that it won't.

Well, no.

Humor - even grim, black humor that no one outside that particular crucible would ever, ever get - is a survival technique.

However, those of us not in that mind set can't be expected to fully appreciate that humor. I realize the necessity for it, but I do not share it. I am grateful that I have no need for it at this time.

Just one comment to this thread (re: the indians running off the europeans), as I haven't seen the video.

Who ever the genious was that decided the backward stick-weilding plains people of North America constituted a "nation" to be bargained with should be posthumously shot for treason. We should go back in history and strangle the life out of everyone who ever even uttered the word treaty in reference to the native savages. Do they pay federal taxes on those gaming proceeds? I know that state taxes pretty much don't apply.

The US is arrogant ask any middle easten country, even Israel think you are arrogant.

i think if you compaired the european unions handling of the Bosnia / croatia / Serbia situation and the US handling of Vietnam / Korea / Iraq you might understand why people feel you are.

But i doubt it since your so Arrogant.

When did the EU handle the former Yugoslavia? Wasn't it the US who had to provide the heavy hitting there, too? No offense, Tarv, and any other Euros out there, but with the exception of Tony Blair, Europe "handling" anything is kinda laughable. Yes, you're welcome. We didn't mind keeping the peace over there one bit for over 50 years.

EDIT: As to arrogance, it helps to be right when you're cocky. I like the old Texas saying: "It ain't braggin if ya done it."

And we thank you for it or at least we thank the Japanesse for getting you annoyed enough to join in anyway.

There was a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on in Yugoslavia that had nothing to do with the US <I know i was there> and the US action was primarily again serbian interests, the other 2 factions wher held away from each others throats by the EU.
#42 Mar 08 2004 at 3:49 PM Rating: Good
Tarv, if anything had been going on between the other factions, we would have heard about it. Didn't you know CNN is the most comprehensive news source on the planet? We're Americans. We do no wrong. You know why? Because we say so. The reason the UN is in New York? So we have them all close enough to be accurate when we decide to bomb the f'uckers. You know what the really nice thing about having enough nuclear weapons to level the world 3 times over is? Never having to apologize when you really don't want to. The nice thing about winning WWDeuce is that the French prove their ungrateful nature every day and the British Government will kiss out asses for at least another decade or two.

I was going for subtlely removing the well reasoned from my wrong there. Did I totally miss it? Damn. Sorry. ;)

Totem, I wasn't meaning to sound like I was attacking you for finding the clip funny.

What I was trying to say, and sorry I wasn't clear, was that I'm one of those candy-a$$es who finds things like that video clip disturbing. I guess I wouldn't mind a little advance warning that there was a person getting killed on the video.

what was your job there ? Correct me if I'm wrong but are'nt you in the navy ? Let's talk about arrogance. You point out things like Korea,Vietnam and Iraq.Ask a South Korean if America let them down.Vietnam, now there the govervment dropped the ball on that one.Iraq, well still to early to say but I think the the Iraqi people are better off and will be.Now you explain to the board here the English arrogance in Ireland, the Falklands, India and the Persian area.

thats right i am in the Navy. I am in the Logistics branch and i was in the FSC <Forward Support Cell> which was in Dubrovnik, since the Marines come under the navy we do most of thier base logistics.

1. Ireland if it came down to a majority vote Northern Ireland would remain under Westminster control. how is it arrogance to support your own peoples view in your own country?

2.The Falklands the people of the Falkland Islands think of themselves as British, the called for help when a forgien dictatorship invaded and made the native population prisoners. Without call on outside powers <NATO could by rights have been activated> we retook the Islands and there was much rejoicing by the people of the island who still think of themselves as British.

3.India After the local population made it clear that they wanted self rule we made arrangements to pass power back to them and forged strong a relationship with the new govenment to such a point that the joined the commonwealth.

4. Persian lets keep it in the modern era please ancient history does not have any baring on the subject.

None of the examples you quoted show the UK arrogant in dealing with another country hell 2 of them involve internal politics for gods sake and another the invasion of our country and the defence of it. how you equate that to arrogance is mind boggleing.

Two comments regarding CNN and other news agencies.
1. Their quality has gone down to almost nothing in the last ten years. This is the age of the sound bite and of things taken out of context. What we did NOT see in this article was the events leading up to their shooting the guy. What we also did not see is the marine in question facing a board of review for war crimes. The man on the ground was a combatant, and if he went for a weapon, then the marine was within his ROE. If not, he will face court martial.

2. News agencies are not even remotely objective. That clip may be (probably is) cut together from unrelated incidents. That marine may have been talking about blowing up captured ammo.

To understand the laughter, you have to be there for the events leading up to the climax that you saw. Ask a psychologist why a soldier would laugh when they saw another human being die. Just don't forget that that other human being just had a weapon pointed at you and/or your friends heads and was trying with every fiber of his being to shoot you before you shot him. Don't forget the effects of massive amounts of adrenaline in the bloodstream. And don't forget that this particular enemy places a wholly different value on human life, his own and yours. And that his views of surrender and rules of engagement and the rules of war are completely and totally foreign to you, to the point where you probably cannot even empathize.

The proper villain here is the reporter who allowed his footage to be cut down so that all context is removed.

...flame me as you want, cant make me more angry than what I see on CNN each day....

Oh, and for you European anti-Americans, your countries lack some things too. The drivers here have no concern for safety. Your people need to bathe before attending close quarters events (e.g. movie premier), oh and brushing of teeth would help too. Learn to wait in line patiently. Learn to provide service with alacrity and accuracy.

Arrogance - I think the French or Italians win this one.
Ignorance - Belgians.
Selfishness - people are selfish everywhere it seems.

Laziness, disorderliness, and a total lack of caring for others. These are the top traits I've seen in three years in Western Europe.
