Without checking the rest of the replies (lazy me)

Fantasywise I would say

Everything from Terry Pratchett, especially Lords and Ladies

Bardic Voices from Mercedes Lackey

Krondor Series by Raymond Feist

Forgotten Realms Series by R.A. Salvatore

G.something Martin "Clash of Kings"

Belgariad series by Eddings (and the sperber one too)

those were the first ones on my mind ;)

Good call, Nat. I totally forgot about one of my favorite fantasy authors, David Eddings. This guy wrote two series of books with the same characters, and they are both a good read. Not the longest, most detailed stuff, but still fun to read.

Check 'em out, Skeet. Or anyone else who dabbles in the genre of fantasy.

Now, I've read Eddings - The Belgariad and the Mallorean series - but not really a big fan of his. His stories seem to be rather bland and unimaginative. Much like Terry Brooks' Shannara series, which I considered downright stupid (in high school).

hmmhmm... I always laughed my *** off while reading Eddings.
I think you can´t really expect a fantasy books to not repeat any key elements of other fantasy stories, and I always had the feeling Eddings had a nice turn in his writing.

But I guess that really depends on your taste ;) If you can´t laugh about it, the book is probably just not your thing *shrugs*

To each their own ;)

Well, poorly written, maybe, but the Bible is a fu'cking good yarn, if you ask me. I mean, parting seas? plagues? floods? wrath? angels? kings? Too bad all that religious mumbo-jumbo started up.

Sheesh, I can remember my mom had this Bible when I was a kid. It was leather-bound and weighed about 25 lbs. It had pictures too, but scary, gory pictures. I used to look at the pictures of Jesus, with his thorny crown, and wonder, "Damn man, why don't you take that sh*t off?"

Jesus. That crazy mexican.

I'm not down with pictures of JC all bloody and hurt. I think they have a special place and time. I prefer looking at Him happy, handing out loafs of bread to brown people.

Any discworld novels are going to be suitable to read and are good if you havent read them.

I obviously don't read books although I do download loads of audiobooks to have read to me because I am too lazy to use my eyes to read.

Hope this helps

Books are alright of course - if you like that sort of thing.

12 pints of Guiness + book = never a winner.

But it's the journey that matters, Woody, the journey.

The only journey involved in that scenario is to the bathroom, for an extended visit.

You may want to try the Gunslinger series by Stephen King. Set in our own world and an alternate world that brings together many characters and places from his other books.

Robert McCammeron's Swan Song. One of the best "end of the world" type books ever printed.

I remember when the origional forums had a section devoted to books. It was a quite place but there were always good suggestions roaming around for reading material.

Another decent writer in the fantasy realm is David Eddings. The Sparhawk character is pretty interesting. I personally enjoyed R.A. Salvatore's Demon Wars Saga as well. I read those books before I had even heard of his most famous character Drizzt.

Would you have told her twice while stuttering like yuo do here? Actually she'd have ripped your throat out after the first sight of you so I guess it's sort of an acedemic question.
