For the first time since I started playing in 1999, I deactivated both of my EQ accounts.

Alot of little reasons just added up to the fact that EQ is not fun anymore...just boring, and when not boring, a hastle.

I am not saying for sure I will never reactivate, but it is not looking good. Poor old ranger never did ding 58....

Anyhow. Thats my pre-weekend update.

I would recommend Planetside, but your old man relexes would be too weak for a fps type game. Maybe you could play the Sims or something if you want a new game.

Say it ain't so, Taco! Ah well, a break will do ya good. I have taken sabbaticals off and on for 4 years...even thought I left for good when DAoC came out...but I came back. Maybe WoW or EQ2 will reignite your interest. I just applied for beta on WoW...

Take care and come back when you want to!

Maybe a non-online RPG like Neverwinter Nights will sustain your lust for adventure till you get back ;)

A farewell:

The late-afternoon sun slowly drifts toward its rest. Grey/black clouds of smoke mingle with the golden-orange clouds of days end. Twilight approaches as hoards of men and women solemnly gather upon the hill. Most with their heads bowed, a few with misty-eyes peer to some far away place upon the horizon. All have come to bid farewell, to share their respects for one who is leaving this world behind. Before the masses is a lone, battle-weary ranger. His packs are bulging with supplies and all his worldly possessions. One-by-one those gathered file by. They wish him well and share their hopes for safe journey and peace at journeys end. At last he stands before all those whose paths have crossed his in his adventures. With bow slung ore his shoulder and sword at his hip, he bows one last bow to friend and neighbor. He turns and looks on down the winding road, wondering what may lie in store for him. The elves begin to sing a song of passing. Their ethereal voices floating ever so gently upon a sea of soft stringed notes, strummed tenderly, from gracefully fingered bards.
As the sun nears the end of its journey and twinkling stars wake to light the way, the solemn ranger steps out and his journey begins anew.

Safe Journeys Friend.

I also quit EQ. Again. For pretty much the same reasons you stated. I was just getting bored with it. I started up SWG again, since they reactivated old accounts for 2 weeks. Having fun with it now, but I don't think it will hold my attention for too long.

Just waiting for EQ2 or WoW now.

Keep hanging with us in OOT, Taco.

I'm still having fun - of course, all my characters are Level 20... plenty of places I haven't been, things I haven't done - I"m in no rush - a little here, a little there...

Go outside and have some fun!

Taco,

I have deactivated my account 3 times only to start right back up. DO NOT DELETE YOUR CHARS OR EVEN GIVE STUFF AWAY! :-)

Little advice from someone who regrets the decision.

OK, so I went to DOAC. It is fun. Little differences and some that are enhancements (being able to see your group members mana is excellent!). I play EQ for the social aspect and DOAC is not as social. You can meet some good friends, but the entire game can be played in solo if you wish and you can get everything you need from merchants, so many never get to socializing. In fact, the only people I did socialize with were former EQers. After a few months of this I came back.

Planetside is loads of fun the first week or so and then it gets very old. I go back in after being away for a while and it is fun again...for a few days. lol. They have added an expansion since I quit. But I do not see Planetside as a replacement for EQ. It is totally different. You acquire points to gain new items and skills, but not like EQ. Much easier to play sporadically and still be ok. Also, you can wade into big battles after only getting a few points and be fighting right along side guys who have the most kills on the server. It is more run-and-gun and less role playing. Also futuristic.

If you have ever been in love with EQ, you will probably be back. After 9 months or so I would begin thinking about adventuring. One of the benefits of having deleted my characters is I got to start as a newbie...untwinked. And things had changed enough and I was so rusty I felt like a newbie. You may just need a break from the Norrathian grind.

Good luck to you, whatever you do.

Smash, you crazy tree-hugger...

Sorry to see you go, Tacosid. Maybe you would like something like Morrowind (sp?). I have a few friends that play that game and hope to start EQ soon.

I've deactivated two of my three (sold all the gear and deleted the characters) then used the money to twink an existing character on the last account.

I haven't been playing much EQ for the last month or so, and don't know if I'll be going back to it much. I'm also avoiding any similar game that requires such a large investment in time to get anywhere. As such I've been playing an online, multi-player WW2 first-person shooter (Hidden and Dangerous 2). I don't have to wait for a group, never lose my gear, respawn shortly after dieing (usually within 30 seconds), and don't even have to pay to play.

I think quitting EQ entirely will ultimately be more difficult than quitting smoking was.

... just don't delete. You never know when you may get a wild hair and decide to log in and harass someone.

Besides, someone might take large doses of drugs one day and steal your name ... and coming back as "Burritosid" just would not be the same.
