Sometimes the amazing thing is that I think you actually BELIEVE that it soemthing doens't happen to you personally, it's not happeneing to anyone.

I'm relatively certain that this is the quote that started the whole debate Smash. This is what I was referring to. I'm also quite confident that I've proven my point.

Look. You obviously have an agenda here, and it's equally obvious that it's tainting your opinion on this issue. I just find it odd that the only source I can find about jobs in my field being outsourced to other countries isn't coming from anyone who actually works in my field, but from vague statistics and "scary" predictions from people like you.

I suppose I could go hide under the covers because chicken little has declared that the sky is falling, but I think I'm just going to be a realist about this instead. If and when I see actual significant numbers of people in my field being outsourced, then I'll think about alternatives (oh, like finding a different field). Until then, what exactly do you expect me to do? Quit now? Start protesting in the streets even though outsourcing has nothing at all to do with government decisions? I'll worry about that when it becomes an issue, if at all. Until that day, there are vastly more likely things that could cause me to lose my job that I'll focus on.

My point is that this is a non-issue at this time. No matter how desperatly people like you try to make it into one, it just isn't. There are so many other factors that could come into play that worrying about just one of them, especially one about which I can't do anything, just seems silly...

I personally hope the IT market folds completely, forcing me into a new line of work. God, I hate supporting computers...

Opinions? I thought you were stating "facts".

Any other poster: "Wait, didn't you just let us know that you were being sarcastic after all? Why so adamant about it now? You seriously feel that way?"

Well if that aint the blind leading the deaf, not sure what is.

To quote a person whom is smarter than me:

"If you learned reading comprihenshun, you'd understand what I was sayin"

The thrown in misspelled words was just for fun, I'm fully aware that everybody knows you're an awful speller. Was just trying to help you out dawg, people aren't recognizing that you are 7 steps ahead of them at all times. When you were being sarcastic that one time, you knew that in one month, you'd say the exact same thing, but mean it that time, and that somebody would call you on it, not knowing that you already knew they'd say something about it, because you were being sarcastic, but not really sarcastic. Because you meant it, but just not then, you mean it now.

You people understanding yet? What do you think Smash? They need more reeding comprehenshun classes?

I think so too.

/yawn. Indeed, I'm unorignal. I have, for instance, spawned probably dozens of hero worshiping *** lickers like yourself who try to ride my coatails to whatever status they think it's possible to acheive on a message board about a video game.

And what video game is this forum about?

We're a lot alike, you and I. Both have the belief we are smarter than the other, (only I really am smarter) and we both hate not having the last word (ok, that's just you really).

It's a fun game of "Let's be pretentious!", and you have many more points than I do, but don't get all excited, that's not a good thing.

Some people agree with you, some people agree with me, but (no offense to ya'll) it doesn't really matter. No matter what, you'll still continue being right all the time, and I'll always point out that you're not. Except maybe when you get 10k posts, there's no way I could contend with a 6 star poster. That would make you what, Smarterer than me?

Thanks for playing, what else ya got?

Uhuh. Let me guess, and you just do it to parody me, correct? Have I mentioned the new material thing lately?

I've got that you jump through hoops to post about ME. Let me know when I start following you from thread to thread doing the same. Jealousy is so ugly, but I've grown used to it.

I missed a statement you made on the previous page, regarding the 14 million jobs at risk. Hell, if I can miss seeing a single sentence, I suppose it's okay that you misread the captions on that chart.

"You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you, don't you"

Yes, I like following you around and poking at you. I also "jump through hoops" to poke at Katie. Except she has been avoiding me lately. And hasn't worried about getting the last word in. And much like a bear does when it's foe "plays dead", I lost interest, and came after you again.

Keep it comin' Smash, you've almost won, really.

Nothing is original anymore Smash. You think you're the first person to say "I'm smarter than you"? Oh, but it's different when you say it because with you, it's true right?

Sure you can. You were wrong, I was wrong. Everybody's wrong on a regular basis. Some people can just say "Hey, I was wrong there" and some people spend ENORMUS amounts of energy trying to rationalize how they weren't.

Yeah, those 14 million software development jobs that were moved to India don't count, naturally.

Something hit a tad too close to home here. Normally Smash and his political rhetoric rubs me wrong but there are white collar jobs being offloaded to other countries.

Boeing Commercial Aircraft (the company that makes most Commercial airplanes that are flying around in our skies) use to employ around 20,000 engineers and designers in 1998. When the development for the two newest programs switched to a more sustaining mode those numbers slowly started erroding. When 9-11 happened the execs used that as an excuse to start cutting jobs left and right. I will agree that the airline market too a huge hit due to 9-11 however things have been slowly picking up. However Boeing is still laying off engineers and designers here in the U.S.A. On the other hand Boeing middle and upper managers have opened up the "Boeing Design Center" in Moscow Russia. When asked about employment figures in Moscow the execs are very careful in saying "There are 300 Boeing Employees in the BDC". The work around is that contract/contingent employees that do design work for Boeing are considered employees of another company that provide a service to a 3rd company.

So here's a breakdown of what I know: (these are rough numbers)
1998 - Boeing had 20,000 engineers/designers making design decisions for the 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777.
2004 - Boeing has 7,000 engineers/designers making design decisions for the 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 and new 7E7. There are 300 Boeing Employees in Moscow and 3,000 contract/contingent employees in Moscow.

The manufacturing end of things have been offloaded to other countries as well however without the firm numbers to back anything up I'd rather not say anything. What I can tell you is the Puget Sound area is more of a final assembly place than an actual manufacturing place. IE, other countries are making the wings, fuselage, components, subassemblies then shipping them on a boat/train/etc to the Seattle are for final assembly and delivery to the airlines.

=============================================================

Ok, so on the topic of digging yourself out of welfare/poor/economically depressed/whateveryouwanttocallit please revisit this thread and reread the synopsis of my grandparents life. I may not be able to stand them for reasons completely unrelated to them having money but by dam I admire the hell the hell out of what they were able to accomplish financially.
