The last thing I wanted to do was start another thread about this stupid quest, but I really do want to get my earring. :-b
I'm wondering if I can find 17 others that aren't afraid of a challenge that want to take this quest head on, the traditional way. I'm thinking 3 well balanced parties of capable players that are looking for a challenge and some excitement.
It will not be easy, but why does everything have to be done the easy way? I've seen a vid of this being beaten by a traditional alliance so it CAN be done. I'm thinking 72-75 for level range (as low as 70 for some mages would be fine I would think) and only people that aren't going to flip out if we don't win the first time.
Sooooo.... anyone interested? Obviously BLMs are welcome, but I'm not looking for 15. LoL.
Disclaimer: I'm not bashing those that are trying to do it the "easy" way, I just like a challenge and I think this would be a LOT of fun. I also know there are a ton of non BLMs that want this so this is their chance.

Alternates will be on first come/first serve basis. If someone can not get their levels up in time or can not make it, the alternates will be used. I am still taking sign-ups for alternates just because there are quite a few "maybes" up there right now.

It is doable with this set up so if everyone can get up to par we will go with this set up. The 2 BLMs and 2 RNGs will concentrate on killing the taru ASAP and we'll work out the rest. LoL
My biggest concern is the 1 RDM. Pebble, you are going to be one busy mage. LoL. Between gravity and PLD refresh.. ouch. :-b I will put the BRD with the 2 BLMs and a WHM. One of the WHMs will be w/o refresh which could prove to be tricky. That WHM will be with the NIN kiter to minimize needed MP. That WHM will also need Yag drinks galore. LoL. I can get my cooking up a few more points to make these easily (currently 51).
Just an FYI to those going, I can synth quite a bit of needed goods so that will cut down on cost. I'll take requests for arrows/shihei/possible yag drinks once everything is finalized. I will try to coax some of our LS chefs to help with sushi/curry/ w/e you use. I will also see about hi-pots, ethers, etc. from our alchemist.
I will do everything I can to assure success. I ask that everyone come prepared and with their A game. Come to have fun and leave the negativity at your mog house. LoL.
(There is potential of two runs. I have 7 alternates currently signed up. If everyone gets their levels where they need to be from the initial group, I'm willing to help the remaining people out. This, obviously, will rely on having enough people for the second group to pull of an adequate alliance. More to come. :-b)

I have learned a lot about strategy in these CoP missions as we have had an odd party set up almost every time, but we come out victorious. I love going in against the odds and coming out on top. It gives you a HUGE sense of accomplishment. If you lose, you raise, heal, and go back in with a slight tweak to your strat to fix where you went wrong.
Once we get closer to a full alliance I will set a date (most likely on the weekend) and we will go over the strats.
As long as the strat is solid and everyone stays calm and sticks to it, we'll all have some nice new earrings. :-b

I can come as WHM, aslong as you give me a chance to get it up there ^^ It is 68 now (delvled with 1000 tnl) but I'll be lvling all weekend and hopefully a few weekdays so I would think it would be atleast 71 by next weekend, but I don't know for sure. Just keep me in mind, k? I'll post back here with lvl updates and what not.

And i don't mind either about goin in a couple of times, i'll do it for my Abyssal Earring :D
I would love to try this. Unfortunately, my highest job is blm at 68. I'm about 20k tnl and I doubt I'll have that anytime too soon. The curse of being able to play mostly on weekday afternoons I guess.

Detanita, if you can get to say 71, you're in. Melee NEED to be higher but a BLM with decent gear and capped skills at 71 should be ok (since we're not going Thundaga III happy). The main concern for BLM/RDM is getting resisted.
Dahlgren and Nobiont, please try to get to 73 prior to this. I'm going to tentatively say two weeks (to give people time and make sure we're set) from tomorrow which is Oct 22. I'll also see about at least hitting 74, if not 75, by then. I would honestly prefer to hit 74 on monk and get NIN to 37 with Utsu Ni. We'll see.
We've got 5 spots left (4 if Detanita can get a couple levels). I'm glad to see it filling out so fast.
I see the start of a good pt for those that need to level. Maybe you guys should work something out. :-b

From what I've read, if you can drop those two fast you're in pretty good shape. I'll lay out a full strat soon.

I'm fine with that as long as you know how to use RNG well. I know it's your sisters account and she was a good RNG, but I want to make sure I'm not jeopardizing anyone. I know I'm not a great mage (couldn't figure out why I was regening HP as MNK/WHM last night LoL) so I wouldn't want to jump into a major mission on a mage job.
Are you going to be using Alethea more? Is Ale thinking of returning? LoL.
My thing is to get the earring for people who want to use it and need the quest first. You can't send it to Emil or I could easily see the benefit. LoL. If we have open slots, however, I don't see a problem with it.
