So i was bored while waiting on the matenience to get done this morning and i saw while checking playonline.com at 6am.. that they were done an hour early? so i hopped on and instantly thought..

NM's!

a friend said LL had already been killed and he was at VE with 5 people there with him already, not even 10mins of the server being up..

so anyway, after some AH paroozing.. i finally go to s.gustaburg and try to get those bounding boots..

Im there.. maybe 5 mins.. and up on widescan..

"Leaping Lizzy"

Of course, like everyone, those quick panic attacks.. calmly tried to hit the track button, Flee, and run like hell to it!

As im running up to it.. i see someone hop off a chocboc and start spamming Steal.. and for whatever reason, i just wouldnt stop running, so it didnt work, and the 75whm who hopped off, got the claim with Flash.

so for a split second im cursing myself for whatever reason i didnt get it.. when i noticed the purple letters go away.. and back to unclaimed...

"Steal"

And the claim became mine.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT HAPPEN BEFORE.

after a few hits LL went down, and left a lovely lizard tail for me. no drop ; ; , but regardless.. i thought it was an oddity in itself.. anyone else ever have something odd happen like that to them?

LL is one thing.. but could you imagine something like a 21-24 Spawn.. and losing the claim??

i think "random shooting spree" would be crossing my mind.. ><

I think that may have happened to me with Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker once.....lol

It wasn't an NM but a person was training stuff in Qufim and I looked into the sky....THE NORTHERN LIGHTS! you know what that means.....LIGHT ELEMENTALS! Well anyways I run to where one was and the person training all the mobs have it. So I just curiously follow her and she keeps running and running and she sees a Giant. She obviously didnt see me, but anyways she Dia's the giant and keeps running. Then, to my amazement....the Light Elemental becomes unclaimed! I Stun it, hes all mine.

Stolen mob=no drop

Karma...

NM hunters may live by the motto of "all's fair in love and NM hunting," but not everyone shares such views...

As a bst, I am all too familiar with the propensity for mobs to de-claim.

And to put it quite simply.... Not cool!

This is definitely the type of actions that will put people over the top....

And if condone it with LL, you can bet that young NM Hunter WILL take it to the next level... 24 hour spawns... HNMs... Where do we draw the line?

I'm a believer that SOME day, vana d will become a free for all... It will be a sad day and the day I retire... Unfortunately, its inevitable. It starts with the "lesser" infractions and when that becomes acceptable, it escalates...

Sad....

I agree, Mujuru. Especially as BST. I was thinking about trying to camp VE while leveling BST in dunes (currently 21), but I'm almost certain if I somehow managed to get claim, it'd be stolen as soon as I switched pets.

Aetheres..

SE did change the de-claim slightly for us BST. It used to be that a claim would de-claim upon issuing leave... They recently changed it to de-claim approximately 5 secs. After Charm... So the window of possible stolen mobs has been made smaller.

However, this places the BSTs life in more danger as we are forced to wait til the mob gets closer to us prior to issuing a mid battle charm.

Unfortunately, I don't know the mechanics of de-charms pre-leave. You may want to try it on some EPs, just to see how feasible it is to NM hunt pre-leave^^

Pre-leave, you just have your pet fight it till it dies, then as soon as you use charm on a mob that's not the NM, you lose claim (because you're taking an aggressive action on a different mob). By the time you use Fight, there'll have been plenty of time to steal it.

Contrary to Aetheres's comments above, pre-leave works the same as post-leave. From the time your pet dies to the time you lose claim is about 5 seconds. I can be a nice distance away from a Wight in Qufim for example, waiting to charm another bat when my current bat dies. I have time to charm the new bats, get back to the Wight (assuming i'm not clear across the map somewhere) and attack without losing the claim.

However, if I fail to claim the bats, my 5 seconds on the claim will end before my 10 second charm timer comes back. I will in that case lose the claim. I've had 2 lvl 55+ come along and take my Wight in the last few days because they thought i was running scared and about to die. In reality, i was just counting down from 10, awaiting my next chance to grab the bats and finish off the Wight.

Aetheres... Try waiting longer before charming. Try to time it so that your prey is in range so you can charm, then issue fight immediately. In theory, your claim shouldn't declaim until about 5 seconds after charming...

Perhaps you are charming right after your pet dies... Then it declaims by the time your prey reaches you.

Yes, you should anticipate getting hit once or twice and by doing this you run the risk of death on a mischarm... So you'll need to weigh the pros and cons... But it should help you keep a claim...

not sure if you were saying "Steal = No drop" because its uncool... or if because it doesnt work..

because ive used steal plenty of times and gotten drops

LL and spook as far as i can tell.

so to all those in debate if you Steal to claim a Mob, no you do not limit yourself from getting a drop.

how else is a THF going to compete against Provoke and charm anyway??

I am not sure if this has an affect on the OP or not, but I have heard that in the last major update, they also changed the claims on NM's. If you claim it too quickly after it pops, you will not get the claim. It was designed to prevent the camping bots from spamming voke or such. I didn't know if it was factual or not, but it sounds like it could be the case here.

I could believe that.. because i claimed LL 5 times that day and didnt get the drop once..

what the hell is TH2 good for if you cant get a drop within 5 times?

and yes i know a bunch of you are going to post your "World Records" of failed camps.. weve all been there in terms of DAYS worth of just staring at that GD widescan.. starting to hallucinate thinking we saw the name on their then realizing it was just a funny quadav name... then the name finally appears.. and you have a heart attack and karate chop your keyboard in half trying to find the macro...

my question is.. SE states everytime we login..

"We do not want to see your real life suffer as a result from playing this game."

Soooo... <Um..>

How do you figure making the drop rates ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE.. that people are going to continue on at a "Normal" playing pattern.

And could you imagine if you played FFXI as if it were say.. FFX .. FFVII..

wed all have like 10hours of gametime and still be shouting in valkrum for items on Sub job quest!

this game would be a lot more fun if drop rates werent so horrible..

(Some guy stands up in the back.)

"Um? Excuse me? Yea, that actually wouldnt be cool at all, because then there would be no challenge or fun to the game as far as wearing a rare item and being proud of it."

/slap

beh!

See Tylerm, thats y u suck!!! Lol, I dont think that's stealing a mob, stealing a mob is Vokein it while some1's rng weapon is waiting to go off. Using a spell 2 claim a mob is faster, yes, and if u can get that spell off in time, grats. There's no such thing as Karma in this game, cause if there was, there wouldnt b any gil sellers hunting NM, cause they wouldnt drop the items that make them rich!!
