How to be a good Player?Follow

#1 Feb 11 2009 at 1:25 AM Rating: Decent
So I just finished reading a post by Minidragon on the old NiN website. its a list of things you can do to have better tanks, DD and mages and I would like to comment. if you have read this you will know what im talking about.
What it really takes to be a good player in 2 words. Not Cheating!

To all of those who were banned recently dont come and criticize the legit players about the gear they tp/ws/enfeeble/tank in because you cheated to get your gear. we dont care what you say cuz you are just cheaters. Im tired of hearing crap from obviously bad players.. Having 7 relic weapons and all jobs 75 doesnt make you a good player and cheating deffinetly does not make you a good player. Being respectfull of other players, not buying gil to get everything, not cheating, not getting your WHOLE LINKSHELL BANNED and having fun are the things that good players are made of.

also take note. if you were banned you did not quit, you were BANNED!
you can keep telling yourself you quit if it makes you feel better though ^^

Have fun on WoW suckers! /banstick

I agree with Bismarckanonymous (Note: correct way to spell the word) 100% but I at least have the balls to say it on my own accounts name and not hide under a fake handle.

I too am not afraid to speak!

His post, for the kind of linkshell he had, was spot on. It's interesting if you think about FFXI and how it appears to some people and how others react to certain things that happen in-game.

The vast majority of end-game linkshells either do things casually or they use large numbers. There is nothing at all wrong with this. Personally, I like a more relaxed end-game shell if it means I don't have to camp kings 4 hours at a time and be 'on-call'. For smaller linkshells, it does take that kind of leadership and organization to get events done. Clearing all Dynamis zones with less than 18 people. Clearing Einherjar with 24 or running 6 man salvage runs. There is not room for error when you small man events. Mini understood that and tried for efficiency and accuracy at his events. I think many people just want a target and he is the biggest.

It would be hard for anyone at all to say he wasnt a good player or leader. Yes, he got banned. But breaking an alliance in Salvage hardly takes skill. He was able to beat just about everything SE threw at him. He accomplished more than most linkshells put together lol. In the end, it was his dime and he did what he wanted. For better or worse, he played the game and from the comments of his LS members, they had fun doing it.

Personally, I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just wish that people would stand up and say who they are lol. Otherwise it's just really spam.

First off I want to say I don't condone the cheating/duping etc. at all and I don't know Minidragon at all either (other than seeing him around occasionally).

To the OP... I understand your point about a good player not cheating, but I really think you did not read Mini's post all that well. ([link=http://nineinchninjas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=9103]http://nineinchninjas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=9103)[/link] The things he says seem to be contrary to what you seem to think he said.

His point is that playing your job the right way is the most important thing and gearing the CORRECT way is also important. He mentions that there is alot of good free gear in Campaign, he also mentions Sea gorgets (also free). While they (NiN) were gear whores and went about getting some of their gear the wrong way, he makes some very good points.

Personally, I think it is important to criticize the gear we TP/WS/Enfeeble/tank in... and I am constantly asking people I think know better for suggestions. For example... I have been messing doing SAM/THF recently for NMs/sky and stuff and have developed different gear swaps for TA/SA after talking to a THF who also had PLD geared. He suggested using some of my +str/+enm gear with my TA's instead of just +str... a totally simple thing that increases my effectiveness. It's not 1337 gear, but it definitely increases00 the function of what I'm doing.

I have also started tanking sky gods... and asked the exact question about gear blinking to my WHM/RDMs. I didn't want to do too much of it, however they said the same thing Mini does... blink as much as you want if it will help, don't worry they would adjust. Also, found out after my first run that if I adjusted what was swapped when (gear I already had) I'd be more effective. Someone gave me criticism (positively/constructively) and the next time it was WAY easier.

Basically he was saying a good/smart player can probably match the damage output and/or effectiveness of some pimped out stupid players simply by making wise gear choices. Just because you didn't cheat to earn your God gear or whatever doesn't mean you're using it the best/right way (As SAM I've out parsed a God Geared SAM who didn't gear swap, with my "cheapy" AH stuff and good gear swaps). I have been willing to accept criticism to make myself more effective with what I've got.

To sum up...
Did Minidragon deserve to get banned? Yes
Does the fact that he cheated mean we can't learn anything from him? No
Has OP gone overboard in his criticism: Probably
Is all criticism bad? Not at all when done right

Im not afraid of anything. I stay (anonymous) so i dont have to listen to tells from stupid people in game. I also agree that NiN was a good Linkshell, No doubt about that. My point being is you shouldnt get your whole Linkshell banned then explain how to make a successfull LS.

As for the section of the post about how to play your jobs. I think most of that is well known information. though not everyone can take the time to get the best possible gear. Its a video game guys, dont forget that. Have fun!

Six things to come to mind here:

1)

You seem to find it serious enough to post about it.

2) Thanks for bringing back month old drama we really dont care about anymore.

3) Way to necro-post an old thread on a different forum. Can't say I've ever seen that.

4) Why the hell am I even responding to this?

5) High caliber LSs demand high caliber players. At least NiN was upfront and honest about it.

6) Hiding behind an anon is kinda /yawn

Sure its well known information but how many times you end up with retards here and there at lvl75 with no idea how to play the job or gear it at the basic level?

Bad/Good LS leader is not up for me or you to say , Its how much NiN managed and how much informations they could offer, in the end most can take the good part of the info, leave the bad/cheating part.
