I just wanna be able to get a 75 so i can start a new job... the only reason i did thf first was so i could start a cooler job after ived gained enough moneh to actually do some good in parties.... *sigh* so where would one start off, so im not just staring at a non-moving character. Side note... last time i was on, SH was 9.7 mill.... i bought it... now..... just wow...also, my thf has little to no money left because of that reason

I think we were in a similar rut. I quit about a year and a half ago, because I spent days in my Mog House, waiting for something to happen--for people to meet--and it was pretty horrid. I've since come back and fallen in with a great linkshell, and I can honestly say, I didn't enjoy FFXI from ye olde noob days, as much as I do today.

First thing I would advise is to find a linkshell, if you haven't already. Check the sticky at the top of this forum index; Derzerb has a compilation of linkshells. Browse some of the linkshell forums to get an idea of how active they are, what their time zone is, and what kind of events they do. A linkshell is the greatest helping hand for any FFXI career--just so long as you have fun with them. Linkshell members aren't only there to help you with AF quests or gil, but to build relationships.

As far as gil, there are plenty of schemes out there. Ever since blood prices were nerfed, I haven't had to farm ever since--I just spam instanced events. I don't know your other jobs, but I know of a few BCNMs where a thief has a place. Some of them are soloable, like "Treasure and Tribulations"; others can be done with 3-6 people. Farming these Beastmen's Seals on a low level job (PUP is a powerhouse for this) is a great way to rack them up. Assaults are another option; some items sell for a very good price that you can get in an average of 8-10 runs. Crafting has never been my thing, but I know some economically-minded individuals can generate a lot of gil that way, so that may be something to explore.

The best thing I can advise is to not burn yourself out. Remember that it's not a race; I didn't get my first job to 75 until 3 years after I started, and even then, I don't consider it my main anymore since I leveled another job up to 75. It's a big help to have a 75, but if it's going to stress you out, why bother?

Find like-minded individuals, and you'll find your niche. I hope you enjoy your second time around; tough it out for a little while, and you'll be rewarded.

Also, in case you already don't, make sure you browse FFXI-related websites (and all types of websites, really) with the proper security precautions (Firefox; NoScript and Flashblock add-ons; etc.).
