Nah, Sig, I didn't think that at all...

I appreciate the advice. I wasn't really planning on JUST using Utsusemi or anything, but i was just looking at spells that were 'useless', b/c i know there are some in the game, and being that I haven't been 'around' for long, i know most of you have seen the ups and downs of the effects and feasibility of being productive with them.

Feeling more edu-ma-cated now...

Okay, I've been seeing this more and more as I begin to take notice of higher level players talking about it.

What exactly is "Sky" Access?
#281 Jan 11 2005 at 12:53 AM Rating: Good
Sky access is a term meaning that you have completed at least the 12th Rise of Zilart mission, and have been provided unlimited access to the northern island beyond the sanctuary of zitah.

...I don't want to give much more detail, as it may spoil the story for you, just know its kind of an "I did it" status symbol for lower levels, and good to know for people who want to party for exp there.

Ok...

so everytime i want to pick up some cheaper supplies from the Woodworking guild, they are sold out...so i figure, oh i'll just show up earlier..

Next day, i'm there when they open. I click open the menu and BAM sold out...

i'm noticing the same people camping out the Guild house most of the time..

is there some special "buying" macro i'm unaware of that's putting me well behind the power curve on this?

Someone told me that not all items are replenished daily (vana'diel time), so either farm or be prepared to camp the guild every hour on the hour. Incidentally same thing happens with Saruta Cotton. 79g each at the guild 6K per stack at the windy AH. So I have my mule loaded up with harvesting gear and a stack of sickles. Only takes a couple hours to harvest a stack of Cotton and the bonus is all the other stuff I harvest at the same time. 6K for fresh mugwart(EACH!!!) +3 to my harvesting result {yes, please}. :)

When fighting an HNM such as Kirin, where kiting is necessary, how in the world does the PLD maintain the hate? It just seems odd to think that a lone kiting PLD should have the ability to hold hate only with Provoke; obviously he can't stop and cast anything, so self-heals for hate seem impossible. With an entire alliance's worth of BLMs and RNGs pounding on this HNM, I can't help but wonder how the PLD does it.

It seems obvious to think that there must be more than one PLD kiting the thing; but I watched Gaav and his LS (I want to say it was Blue Gartr, but I may be mixed up) taking down Kirin, and I could have sword that Kirin was chasing a single guy around the room.

How Do They Do That. ;)

/ja "Raspberry" <t>
Nataraja gives Kirin the Raspberry.
Kirin gets so mad steam comes out of his manticore-esque ear-like appendages.

Seriously!

There's a team of NINs and PLDs that kite Kirin around at the end stage. One tank is never enough for Kirin. He could instant kill anyone with Stone IV or his breath attacks. PLD only use his mp to Flash. He/she does not have enough time stop moving and cast a big cure. Getting caught by Kirin's melee = instant death.

It's rough for tankers at a Kirin fight. They usually take multiple deaths. One of the PLD in my LS took 15+ deaths to take that oversized god summoner down. There are always a team of tanks kiting around Kirin. At a same time another team of wounded tanks is hiding out for their res sickness to wear, just so they could go right back and take some more beating.

As for the nukers, they usually nuke slowly to reduce visibility. In the case of tank team losing hate, Kirin is bound by mages or RNG for the tank team to regain hate. The nuker usually relogs periodically to erases all the hate just to be safe. You can't zone out of the Kirin arena. But you could log out and relog right back. ;P

Personally I don't like Kirin hunt at all. Killing Kirin is more of a braggin right than being practical. It took our LS two 18 men alliances 4 hours, enduring lots of deaths, just for crappy drops and a title. They need to improve the item drops on Kirin. As of now only 1-2 jobs that will benefit directly from the Kirin item drops.

"I've killed Kirin and all I got is this crappy title."

Why? Jeepers... Why subject yourself to that? How exciting is it fighting something for 4 hours? After the first 3 hours, it would start to feel like farming... full contact farming... but farming none the less...

As a solo-psycho red mage, I love fights of attrition, so I can still sort of see the allure there >.>

I can see the point of the 'bragging rights and not much else', though. 15 deaths....ow. Four hours....holy crap.

Thanks for the great reply Emilyia ;) Rate up.

Popo is one of the PLDs, Rhayn's the 15+ one. I don't think she delevel though. I think Popo's got 10+ deaths at least.

I think taking on Kirin is just crazy. His drops sucks so much ***. BLM uses elemental staves. That Kirin Pole is crap. MNK/WAR/NIN rather use Scorp Harness than the damn Osode. WAR "might" want the Osode for +10 VIT, but usually they use their AF body to hold hate anyways. Osode is good for BRD only (+10 CHR). I really don't think all that wasted time and death is worth the trouble.

Am I just unlucky and keep trying to use it when it's down, or has it actually been down for like a month?

Aunika, sorry for the much-delayed response but I was having the same problems as you with the guild being sold out of logs when I started Woodworking.

Then I found this guy in Carpenter's Landing.

He sells many of the logs that the guild does, has the same hours as the guild (also closed on Firesday) and to my knowledge, never runs out of supplies like the guild does. He sells (prices based on lvl 9 fame):

Bundling Twine 75g
Hatchet 312g
Arrowwood Log 12g
Ash Log 60g
Yew Log 330g
Willow Log 120g
Walnut Log 1024g

To get to Carpenter's Landing from North Sandy:

From the Woodworking guild (bottom floor), head straight and past Cheupirudaux the guildmaster, make a right as soon as ya can over the little piece of land over the water (you'll see the goblin NPC Gaudylox to your right behind some wood after you cross the bit of water) at this point keep straight and a bit left and tab around 'til you see a 'Wooden shudder' (I think it's called). This is the entrance to Carpenter's Landing. Once there, head to the dock area and you should see him a little before the actual dock.

You probably found all this out already, since your post is two weeks old but just incase, good luck ^^v

Reinstalling XP doesn't clear your web browser's cache. =P

If you're using Firefox, like I do:

Go into Tools -> Options, then go to the Privacy tab. You'll see the Cache field, then all you have to do is hit clear.

If you're using Opera, like I would if more sites liked it:

Go into Tools -> Preferences -> History and Cache. Click the clear button.

And, if for some reason, you're using IE (I don't unless I'm absolutely forced to):

Tools -> Internet Options -> General, then hit the "clear files" button on the Temporary Internet Files section.

I do LiveJournal Support. Cache issues "break" it all the time - error messages that shouldn't be there are awfully persnickety once they get into your cache.

Er... even with a reformatting?

P.S. Clearing the cache just now didn't help either.

P.P.S. Just so I don't look completely retarded, I didn't reinstall XP just to fix this problem. Smiley: tongue
