Hello all, I have just created a new character on Bahamut Im in Sandy right now trying to level up and get started getting my character back to where it needs to be. Anyone know why the mobs dont drop crystals anymore? i was hoping to use that as a source of income in the beginning to get some newb gear but all these things drop are temporary items lol. Well I was just wondering if anyone had a friendly ls i could join up with and get some socializing going. Im bored of killing forest hares lol

I'm returning, but I never really played too much. I have a level 14 WAR in Bastok, and a 18 WHM/18 BLM in Windhurst. I'm just finishing up some school work this weekend, but as soon as that is done, I plan to be online. My WAR's name is Groja, and my WHM is Hemel.

What I believe happens now is you use those floating books called Grounds of Valor or Fields of Valor to gain extra xp. You do a "training regimin" which will be something to the effect of "Kill X number of mobs" and when you do so you get rewarded XP. Then I hear about lvl 12 or so you head to Gusgen Mines and do the Grounds of Valor there with a pty.

Hey,
Your problem with mobs not dropping crystals may be that you dont have signet. Make sure you stop and talk to a guard near the exit into the wild and get signet casted on you. You wont be able to get crystal drops without it. Its also supposed to slightly boost your exp per kill.
The field of valor books that skilo mentioned are vary helpful. I think they are pretty much how you level in the game now. Leveling groups are hard to come by. I have been able to make it to level 14 pretty quickly using the books. You can find info on where to find the books around sandy here on Zam.
