Forum rating system.
I'm wondering if the rating system is really doing its job?
If you have 2-3 people constantly down raiting every one of your posts no matter what they are your never going to be anything but default?
So, even if your trying to be helpful and have good posts your pretty much screwed by some people more established and that have a high raiting becuse they have a Personal dislike for you?

Inflected Form(s): rat·ed; rat·ing
Etymology: Middle English
transitive verb
1 : to rebuke angrily or violently
2 obsolete : to drive away by scolding
intransitive verb : to voice angry reprimands

You show me one "good" or "helpful" post that is sub-default.
#3 Jun 24 2007 at 4:42 AM Rating: Default
Your exactly what I'm talking about.
It's like there is an upper class her that sees others as lowly serfs.

Does that mean you don't have a good or helpful post to show?

Tailmon,

what Rimesume is getting at is for you to site an example.

Because you've posted here means you can obviously support your claims, otherwise why would you bring it to the attention of the admins?

So please link me to a post what you believe to be supportive or helpful that is below default and maybe we can take action on it.

But just so you know coming here and making such a wild claim as 'the system doesn't work' without supporting your arguement by evidence (only offering a definition of a word) is not valid enough for any kind of action to be taken there.

Talimon,

First you need to sit back and understand how the Karma System works.

Your overall Karma rating is determined by the number of times you've been rated. It has nothing to do with postcount. If everyone on this site rated one of your posts excellent, even with 41 posts, you'd have a higher Karma Threshold than say someone with 10,000 posts. Granted, a poster with more posts has a higher chance of having a high Karma Threshold than a poster of lower postcount.

The system works in almost every scenario. Let's pretend I followed you around and rated every single one of your posts 'Awful'. Now if you made truly helpful and good posts then someone would rate you up effectively canceling my rate down. Well, in the sense if you're at 'decent' I rated you down, and someone rated you back up, chances are you'd fall back at 'decent'. People who make the rediculous claim that the system doesn't work cannot answer the simple request I asked you. "Show me one "Good" or "Helpful" thread that is Sub-Default." Reason being is because you won't find it, unless said thread/post was made by an notorious **** troll(Such as Kojiami).

I'll let you in on another secret, us senior posters don't hold meetings and come up with grand schemes to belittle new posters. It just doesn't happen. Well, if it does happen, where the hell is my invitation? Smiley: motz

Here is what I strongly recommend you do, just post. Don't pay attention to that Score. Had I done that early in my posting career(if you will) I would probably be a Sage today. No one likes a whiner. I don't know what game you play or what boards you normally cruise, but ignore that Karma score, and if you feel your being unfairly camped, PM(Not make a thread) an admin as request that they look into it.

What I'm poking about is that if you have 2-3 people that dislike you and have the ability to rate you and do nothing but rate you down. How do you overcome this handicap?

Oh I get it, you post at default. That means you've made a lot of crappy posts. That or you've irritated a lot of people(which are usually one in the same). In the thread you linked, someone actually rated you up.

Yes, the post you linked here is the rating history. . .

Score: Decent [3.37]
Tailmon: 2.06
Tailmon: 2.06
Xxx: 6.00

To preserve anonymous rating I xxx'd out the name but as you can see you got rated up there so I really can't see what you are complaining about.

Sorry.

Oh yes, because your average score is at 2.06 that's the score which displays as default on all of your posts, sans rating.

It was actually 1.76 earlier today.
I guess its over worry about it.
My RMT thread seems to be generating a bunch of hate.
king, imperial I will just ignore the ratings and keep posting.

This is the only forum I've used that has this kind of system.

Tailmon after reading all the posts you've made I can tell you your posting habits are good and your posts themselves stay on topic and are usually helpful.

But you did make the mistake of participating in an active RMT thread in your server forum early on. It was because of this, that your karma went down to what it is now (you actually didn't get rated down anywhere outside of that thread, and this. . .).

If you want to get your karma up stop posting in that rmt thread. If you want it to go down eventually to sub-default keep posting there, because that's what will happen.

Sigh, I only wanted to help with our RMT problems.
I guess people saying I don't care or We dont give a crap.
They really mean it.

It doesn't mean anything, anyways. I'm Scholar, but I should really be Guru. What? Smiley: rolleyes

Just bulk up on posts and people will give up their ratedown spree. Worked for me.

Don't worry about karma with such a low post count. Smiley: lol

I had something like 1.80ish when I had around 50-100 posts. I think I spammed my way to my first star too. Eventually I slowly brought it up and achieved scholar at 4,000 posts.

I also used to have premium that ended in 2995, but the big peoples got mad and took it away! (I should like... totally recieve guru for that.
